Today, we unveil the new Ulwazi. 🎉📚🎓💻
Ulwazi turns 2, and what a journey it has been. What started as research support has grown into something much bigger.
We now work across:
• Research support
• Scientific communication & media reporting
• Personal & professional branding
• Conference and institutional strategy
From supporting Master’s and PhD candidates to working with institutions, Parliaments, and industry, including oil & gas and mining, we continue to position knowledge for clarity, visibility, and impact.
To our clients, thank you.
To our team, thank you.
To those joining us, welcome.
We are just getting started.
Ulwazi Research,
Elevating Research Through Communication Excellence

Your proposal is not the problem. The way it's structured is. Most research proposals get rejected because:
– the research problem is unclear
– the literature is not aligned
– the methodology is weak
So you keep rewriting… and nothing improves.
At Ulwazi, we don’t guess. We refine your topic, strengthen your research questions, and structure your methodology so your proposal is clear, coherent, and submission-ready.
If your proposal is not coming together get in contact. We’ll show you exactly what needs to be fixed.

⚠️Applications for Cohort 3 of the Mahlalela Mentorship Programme are still open.
Mentors are needed. If you are an experienced researcher in a marine or polar field, we encourage you to sign up. If you know someone who would make a strong mentor, please share this opportunity within your network.
This phase will continue supporting postgraduate students and early-career researchers in marine and polar research.
From April to September 2026, participants will be matched into small mentorship groups, with each mentor guiding 4-6 mentees. Monthly one-hour sessions will focus on research development, academic progression, and career advancement. The programme complements, but does not replace, formal academic supervision.
Serving as a mentor is also a meaningful professional development opportunity, it strengthens your leadership and communication skills, broadens your professional network, and can be included in your profile as evidence of service, capacity building, and community engagement within the marine and polar research community.
We strongly encourage Masters and PhD candidates to also apply and take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their research journey.

Today, South Africa turns purple, and Ulwazi Scientific Communications and STEM Research stands firmly in solidarity. 🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣
Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) is not only a social crisis; it is a national crisis that affects every sector, including science, education, research, maritime, and the broader blue economy. We cannot build a thriving, innovative, knowledge-driven Africa while women continue to face violence, fear, and structural inequality.
As an organisation led by an African woman scientist and communicator, Ulwazi believes that safety is a prerequisite for leadership, and protection is a prerequisite for participation. When women are unsafe, it limits the very progress our society claims to pursue.
Today’s call to declare GBVF a national disaster is not symbolic, it is a necessary demand for accountability, urgency, and decisive action.
🟣 We stand with the women and allies raising their voices.
🟣 We honour the lives lost to femicide.
🟣 We recognise that true development requires justice and safety.
🟣 We reaffirm our commitment to shaping a future where women can lead, innovate, research, create, and contribute without fear.
Ulwazi’s work, whether in science communication, research support, policy engagement, or blue-economy leadership, will always centre human dignity and equity. Today is a reminder that our progress as a country is impossible without protecting the women who drive it.

Ulwazi Scientific Communications and STEM Research at the Maritime Forward Africa Conference 2025 ⚓️🌊🛳
Ulwazi Scientific Communications and STEM Research proudly joined industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers at the Maritime Foward Africa Conference 2025 ( ) in Cape Town, a dynamic gathering shaping the future of Africa’s maritime economy.
Our Founder and Director, Dr Kolisa Yola Sinyanya had the honour of moderating the “Sustainable Shipping in Africa” panel, which brought together insightful voices driving innovation and sustainability within the maritime sector. The discussion explored Africa’s path toward cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive shipping systems, balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility.
A heartfelt thank you to the incredible panelists Mishka Prinsloo Pr. Eng. and Elijah Mbaru for their thought-provoking contributions, and to the organisers for curating such an impactful space for collaboration.
We also extend our appreciation to the learners from Manzomthombo Senior Secondary School for attending the conference. Your curiosity and enthusiasm remind us why inclusive maritime education and youth engagement are essential to building Africa’s blue future. 💙
Here’s to a more sustainable, innovative, and empowered African maritime economy. 🌍
