Monday was a day to showcase the top dogs of Grade 12s where the celebration of Valedictory was a true reflection of hard work.
There were high fliers who received 5 to 6 certificates at a go but the Boss Lady this time was Office Awethu who came tops as the Top Achiever in term 3 for Grade 12. Go Awethu Go!

The learners looked distinguished in their gowns and mortarboard hats and poised for a brighter future!

Wishing the class of 2022 the very best in their final exams commencing on Monday, 31 Oct.

A Science Young Biologist Course application was brought up to the attention of the Science teachers, Ms Gugushe and Ms Mbinda by our Principal, Mr Skweyiya and Ms Mamba. They were mandated to select the qualifying learners according to their top performance in Life Sciences (Grade 10). 4 learners applied, their applications were edited and submitted by the same teachers. 250 learners applied from 113 schools Nationally. Our leaner Mbali Lujabe from Bulumko - Grade 10B made it on the list of 50 learners who were selected to be part of the Young Biologist Course.

During September holidays (1-4 Oct), she attended a 3 day training at the 2 Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront with the other 49 learners from different schools. On 5-7 Oct, she went on a 2 day camp in Simon's Town. The course will continue and the Graduation will be in April 2023. The pictures and the videos are proof that she represented us well.
Excellence is truly a mantra @ Bulumko!

On the 14th of October, the Class of 22 celebrated their Matric Ball in style at Froggy Pond Resort in Simons Town. The ladies and the gents were dressed to kill and we spotted international stars ..... Drake, Beyonces, Tevin Campbells, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Miss Universes, Miss Worlds, AKA - 'aaah maybe not'. They looked beautiful and elegant as they walked on the red carpet entering the venue. The gents had a swagg and suave moves whilst the ladies were strutting their stuff.
Wait..... the showstopper was Camilla McDowell - the Queen of Constantia - wait, the Real Housewives of Cape Town cast member, who graced the occasion with her presence. She was the motivational Guest Speaker who shared some words of wisdom.

It was indeed a night never to be forgotten as the learners were treated to a 3-course delicious meal fit for Kings and Queens! Let me not say more....see the pictures for yourselves!

30 learners from our Grade 8 boys attended the Safer Schools Camp which was held on the 12-16 Sept 2022 at Chrysalis Academy Outdoor and Tented Camp Site. The Camp was organised by the Western Cape Government, City of Cape Town Law Enforcement Services and Chrysalis Academy.

At our school, we have been facing challenges with a rise in drug and substance abuse and bullying. The camp was aimed at empowering them with different life skills and information about present issues namely; substance abuse, crime prevention, human trafficking, gangsterism and other related social ills. These issues correlate with each other and are most commonly found social ills with the communities especially when it comes to substance abuse as a contributing factor to crime.

The Programme outcome was to strengthen relationships and interpersonal connection between learners, learners and their parents and learners with their teachers.

Methodology used was group based, experiential activities designed to challenge learners lateral thinking, planning, physicality and communication.

From Zip lining to Wall climbing, Obstacle challenges and Hiking to name just a few. The learners had a time of their lives!

Fires are a very real and dangerous threat to any workplace. The best way to keep employees safe and protected from fire hazards is to provide quality workplace fire safety training. After all, the best kind of fire protection is fire prevention. , we did just that.

Tuesday, 30 August, we had training on recognising fire hazards, what to do when there's fire in the building and how to use fire extinguishers just to name a few. It was a very fruitful day and kinda interesting as colleagues were mastering the use of fire extinguishers as small as they are. They are a powerful weapon, dangerous and useful at the same time. We learnt the techniques of using the fire extinguishers; PULL..AIM...SQUEEZE...SWEEP!

Research continues to support the intellectual benefits of chess. Playing chess develops problem-solving skills in learners. It also helps improve their overall performance in subjects such as maths, reading, and writing. @ Bulumko we support this thinking. On Friday, 12 August, Mr Butau donated Chess to the school to sharpen the minds of our learners. We thank the support we receive from business and parents alike because to raise a child takes the whole community. This is what we do at Bulumko! We are looking forward to partake in the upcoming chess competitions!

South Africa just crowned Miss South Africa 2022 on Sat, 13 August. That competition must just take a sit please.

@ Bulumko, we crowned our very 1st Mr and Miss Bulumko on Friday, 5 August. It was an event not to be forgotten. The energy from the crowds supporting their fellow classmates and friends was exhilarating!

The beauty displayed on the stage was more than what we normally see at Miss South Africa. I'm talking poise, glamour, oozing confidence, style, strutting their stuff the whole sheebang! Folks it was the survival of the fittest as all the contestants gave it their 100% effort. The competition was judged according to how they looked and presented themselves on these three categories: Uniform, Casual Wear and Formal Wear.
For the guys we got our clear winners as 3 of them clearly displayed all the qualities the judges were looking for. On the ladies, it was a different case we had a tie and ended up with the top 5 where the judges posed a question to all and their answers determined who the winners were. Kudos to Ms Mazwane, Ms Bomvu, Ms Jobela, Ms Papiyana, Ms Mbinda and everyone who assisted in ensuring the contest was a success!

Enough talk, see for yourselves....the King and Queen of Bulumko flanked by their Princes and Princesses.

Miss Bulumko - Miss Mdodana (Grade 11)
1st Princess - Miss Gagela (Grade 11)
2nd Princess - Miss Dolweni (Grade 9)

Mr Bulumko - Mr Vena (Grade 10)

On Tuesday, 17 May, The Dischem Foundation donated 3 packs of pads for all our girl learners from grade 8-12.
