As we commemorate National Women's Day, we honour the courage of the more than 20 000 women who marched on 9 August 1956 and recognise that their struggle for justice, dignity and equality continues today.

In a special message to the UWC community, Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Balfour reflects on the importance of listening to women's lived experiences and shares powerful reflections from three remarkable UWC scholars – Dr Tamlynn Roberths, Professor Tamara Shefer and Dr Thandi Gamedze.

Their stories remind us that Women's Day is more than a commemoration. It is a call to advance gender justice, challenge inequality and build a society where everyone can flourish.
