Youth Day 2026 | 50 Years Since the Soweto Uprising

Today, we pause to remember the students of 1976 whose courage changed the course of South African history.

Fifty years ago, young people took a stand for their right to quality education and a future shaped by dignity, equality, and opportunity. Their voices continue to remind us that education is not something to be taken for granted, but something to be valued, protected, and used for good.

While much has changed over the past five decades, access to quality education remains unequal for many young South Africans. As we reflect on the legacy of 1976, we are reminded that the work of building a more equitable society continues. Each of us has a role to play in extending opportunity, opening doors, and using our education in service of others.

As a school, we honour their legacy by nurturing thoughtful, compassionate, and courageous young women who understand the power of their voices and the responsibility that comes with them.

On this Youth Day, we remember the past, reflect on the present, and commit ourselves to helping build a future in which every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
