Today, we celebrate the energy, creativity, and potential of South Africa’s young people.
At the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, we are proud to provide learners with opportunities to explore their curiosity, develop research skills, and create innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
This Youth Day, we honour the courage and legacy of the young people of 1976 by investing in the next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, and changemakers who will shape our country’s future.
Happy Youth Day, South Africa 🇿🇦

Join WaterCAN this Youth Month for an inspiring online conversation with young South African scientist Nkateko Maholobela, whose work has taken him from a three-week expedition in Antarctica to 15 months living in isolation on Marion Island with a team of South African researchers.
Nkateko’s journey is one of adventure, resilience and discovery. His work involved sampling rare plankton in Antarctic waters to help scientists better understand the health of fish populations that eventually make their way to South African waters.
This is more than a story about life at the edge of the world. It is a reminder that the health of distant oceans is closely connected to the health of our own ecosystems — and why scientific research, water monitoring and environmental stewardship matter.

Congratulations to those Cape Town learners who were selected to go to the Regional Science Fair in August. Use your Learner Feedback Form to upgrade your project. For Expo resources please go to Exposcience.co.za
Across South Africa, District Expos were recently hosted in 35 Eskom Expo regions, providing learners with a platform to showcase their research, refine their projects, and gain expert guidance from judges, selectors, and mentors.
The next step in the Eskom Expo journey is the Regional Science Fairs, where selected learners with strong, original research ideas and significant project development will continue their scientific exploration.
For more information about selections and Regional Science Fair dates in your area, please contact your Regional Science Fair Director or Provincial Coordinator.

Success for the DSK at the District Eskom Expo 2026 - Innovation Meets Efficiency!💫
On 23 May 2026, Moritz Naumann-Daun (10a) and Tristan Krige (10c) presented their exciting project, ‘Aerodynamics for Improved Vehicle Efficiency’, at the District Eskom Expo 2026, held at Turfhall Primary School in Penlyn Estate.
