Former Newlands Cricket High School fast bowler and captain, Ali Akbar Shaik, destroyed the batting line up of Premier League log leaders, Belleville Cricket Club today. He's figures were 5/19 off 10 Overs.
Bellville were struggling at 85/8 with just a few Overs remaining at their home ground.

Ali Akbar , a true swing bowler, can be a real handful especially against batsmen who get in line, he nicks off the better batsman regularly. He also has an uncanny knack to bowl spin and he turns the ball both ways and is impossible to read.
A real talent and is a descendant of the once legendary Abed Brothers, his Grand father being the former SA Captain, Tiny Abed.

He has his sights set on still representing his country and juggles work and family to ensure that he still delivers the goods on the field.

He has been the leading wicket taker at Rondebosch every year but one when he was second to Wes Badger.

All the best to the Newlands/ Stonefountain College old boy

Uzayr Matthews and Abdud Dayaan Enos, two Newlands old boys, departed for England yesterday to play cricket in Stamfordham. Greeted by family and friends at Cape Town International Airport, they were very excited. The trip has been in the planning stage for 2 years as Covid restrictions in both countries made the arrangements very difficult. However, the parents never gave up and battled all the way. They fly via Doha and then on to Edinburgh.
We wish the two every success. They are two of the most decent and humble boys you will find and the experience will be wonderful for them.

Abdud Dhayaan is a top order batman and a useful seamer while Uzair is a middle order batsmen and can bowl seam and spin. Uzair is also a great fielder, super fast in the covers.

Staff and learners and old boys at Newlands CHS wish the boys all the success there and safe travels.

Abdullah Bayoumi seals a successful week at the National under 18 tournament with selection into the SA Colts side. What a wonderful milestone for him. Many congratulations to him, his family and two of his main coaches, Xolani Lallo and Shahid Adonis. Also a special word of thanks to The Abu Turab Sports Centre where Abdallah is a regular. May Abdallah still achieve much higher rewards and accolades in the years to come.

Brilliant knock by Abdallah Bayoumi takes WP to a nail biting win against Gauteng in Potchefstroom in the main game today.
57 not out, under pressure and batting with the tail, the only non boys school player in the WP under 19 side showed his mental strength and technique in chasing down the 230/9 set by Gauteng. Abdallah sent a strong message to the selectors and coaches as he was a late replacement in the team, but spoke when it mattered, with the bat, when the chips were down, he raised his hand and said, don't worry, I will take us home.
And did he just do that! Amazing, we at Newlands Cricket High School salute Abdallah. Well done young man, you return a hero.

A team representing the form players from the WP Clubs, takes on the WP Blitz side at Newlands today.
Ali Akbar Shaik from the Rondebosch Cricket Club and former Newlands Cricket HS fast bowler has also made the team after a string of top performances the past few months.
He has taken a total of 48 wickets since the start of cricket in October, with 3 five wicket hauls and 2 four wicket hauls. Economy has been miserly and he has a strike rate of a wicket every 15 balls.
AL Akbar will relish the opportunity of bowling at the WP batting stars. With his swing, he has always excelled against better batsmen who tend to get in line.
Ali Akbar recently played in the Universities Week in Gqeberha for CPUT where he was the highest ranking bowler after two days before the tournament was cut short due to a Covid outbreak.
Newlands Cricket HS wishes him all the success.

Abdallah Bayoumi's selection to the 2021 Coke Week side is also an acknowledgement of the role of his parents in his cricket career. Seyed and Gameda Bayoumi are indeed champion parents just as much as Abdallah is a champion cricketer. You will find them at all his games and even at his practice sessions. With a flask of hot coffee ready to be shared with everyone. And the tastiest food dishes. They support all the functions and are always the top ticket seller. We at Newlands Cricket HS really have to pay tribute to them. Humble and friendly people who take the good with the bad equally well. It has not always been easy. Selections to the top teams are competitive. From everyone at the NCHS, past and present we salute the Bayoumi family. Abdallah is a fighter and we are sure that he will deliver his best. Keep the flag flying high. It takes champion parents to produce champion sportsmen. And that is exactly what this family is all about.
