After a month spent celebrating the incredible women on our team, we couldn’t move on without giving some love to the one guy amongst us, Emile.

Emile brings a pretty special combination to our team. He is gentle, patient and nurturing, while also endlessly practical, capable and always ready to get stuck in.

He’s the guy who’ll build, fix, carry, climb and figure things out but he’s also the guy who’ll happily stick his head under freezing cold river water in the middle of winter simply because the kids asked him to 🌊

There’s something pretty wonderful about an adult who can meet children in their world like that, taking their ideas seriously, joining in wholeheartedly and never being too grown-up to play.

Thank you, Emile, for bringing the softness, the skills, the silliness and everything in between. We’re very glad to have you in our forest 💫🤍🌳

Watching so many children pass through the forest over the years has been an honour but watching mine grow up in it has given me such a deep sense of joy and purpose. They were tiny, loud and curious, and our time together in forest school has connected us in profound ways, given us all roots, and brought so many laughs!

Now my eldest son has stepped into a whole new role, assisting our facilitators during the last few Holiday Clubs. Seeing him lead, guide, and care for younger children, in the same way he was once cared for, is very rewarding! This is the whole point of what we do: raising little ones to belong to nature, to be part of society, to take care of each other and to enjoy a simple but full life outdoors!

I feel so lucky to get to witness this all, both as a mother and as someone who gets to share this space with so many other families and their children.

Thank you for trusting us with your little ones, and for letting us grow alongside them.

Behind every muddy adventure, curious question, carefully prepared activity and magical moment in the forest is a woman who helps make it happen 🌸✨.

This Women’s Month, we’re celebrating the women who make up Nature Plays. The facilitators who meet children in their wonder, the organisers who keep everything moving, the creatives who bring our stories to life, and the founder who dreamed this whole thing into being.

Each woman brings something different. Patience, creativity, curiosity, knowledge, organisation, playfulness, empathy and a whole lot of heart.

Together, they create the kind of space we hope every child gets to experience: a place where they can be curious, get muddy, feel safe, discover who they are and fall a little more in love with the natural world.

To the women of Nature Plays, thank you for all that you bring. We’re so lucky to have you 🧚‍♀️!

🌳 Forest School Groups Now Open in Hout Bay! 🌳

Bird watching, foraging, tool work, building forts from fallen branches, nature arts and crafts, and stories under the trees! this is childhood the way it should be. 🍃

At our beautiful riverside space, kids get to explore, build, discover, and enjoy the great outdoors rain or shine (we’ve got indoor space for those all-weather days too).

New term starts: 29 July- 16 September

🎒Explorer Mom & Tot Group — Ages 2-4, with parent/guardian
Wednesdays 09:30-11:30

🔎 Discoverers — Ages 4-10, drop-off or parent joins
Wednesdays 15:00-17:00
