🌱 Growing more than vegetables at LEAP 7 Paarl 🌱

Our learners have been getting their hands dirty in the school garden planting, weeding, watering and harvesting together. 🥬🥕

But this garden is about more than learning to grow food. The vegetables our learners tend with such care go straight into the meals that feed them each day. Every seedling they plant helps nourish their classmates, their teachers and themselves.

Along the way, they're learning about science in action, the value of teamwork, responsibility and patience, and the pride that comes from seeing your hard work literally bear fruit. 🍅

A heartfelt thank you to M&G Investment for their generous support of our garden. Your partnership is helping our learners grow healthy food, new skills and a love for the land. 🙏

From soil to plate, this is LEAP learning at its best! 💚🧡

In Memory of Grant Nupen

It is with deep sadness that the LEAP Science and Maths Schools community learnt of the passing of Grant Nupen, former Principal of Bishops and former Chair of the LEAP Board.

Grant was part of LEAP's story from the very beginning. In 2002, when our founder John Gilmour came to him with nothing more than an idea for a school that would unlock potential in maths and science for children excluded from opportunity, Grant listened and took it seriously. Within weeks, the two were sitting with the then Minister of Education, Professor Kader Asmal, discussing how such a school could become possible.

When LEAP opened in Observatory, Bishops opened its doors too. LEAP learners used its science labs and classrooms, Bishops boys tutored in maths, English and science, and LEAP learners shared conversational isiXhosa. It was partnership built on dignity and mutual respect, something Grant understood deeply.

e later served as Chair of our Board, alongside people like Anthony Galloway, James McGregor and Joe Kainja, helping shape a culture that still defines LEAP today: support without control, challenge without ego, and belief accompanied by responsibility.

As John writes, much of Grant's contribution will never appear in an annual report. It lives in doors quietly opened, relationships formed, and in the thousands of young people whose lives have been touched by LEAP.

Our deepest condolences go to Rosemary, Stewart, Julia, Douglas and Lindy, to the Bishops and St Albans communities, and to all who knew and loved him.

For over 22 years, Ms Jenni Copeland has been part of the heartbeat of LEAP. 🧡🖤

She has been with us since day one. She has taught, guided, believed in and championed generations of LEAP learners, many of whom are reading this today as proud alumni. Her legacy lives in every classroom she shaped and every learner who found their voice because she saw something in them.

On 10 October 2026, the LEAP family is coming together to honour this remarkable legacy, and we would love for you to be part of it. ✨

Heritage Day at LEAP 7 Paarl 🧡🖤🇿🇦

Today our LEAP 7 family opened its doors and invited learners, parents, siblings and friends to celebrate our heritage together, and what a day it was!

The courtyard was filled with colour as learners and staff arrived in their traditional attire, from vibrant beadwork and headwraps to beautifully patterned skirts, each outfit carrying a story passed down through generations. 👑✨

We sang, we danced, and we cooked together. Then we sat side by side at one long table and shared a meal, the way our families and communities have always done. 🍲🌽 There's something special about breaking bread together: it reminds us that no one grows alone.

At LEAP, we believe in ubuntu: umntu ngumntu ngabantu, a person is a person through other people. Our heritage isn't only in what we wear or eat. It lives in how we show up for one another, how we welcome each other's families, and how we lift each other up. That's the heart of the LEAP community. 🤝

Thank you to every parent, family member, educator and learner who came together to make this a day filled with love, laughter, gratitude and pride. Days like today remind us that our diversity is our strength, and that together we are so much more. 💛

Happy Heritage Day! 🇿🇦✨

Today we celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, languages and traditions that make South Africa, and our LEAP family, so beautifully diverse.

Across our nine schools in the Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape, our learners and staff proudly showed up in their traditional attire, honouring the stories, values and wisdom passed down through generations. 🧡🖤

At LEAP, we believe that knowing where you come from gives you the confidence to shape where you're going. Our heritage is not only something we remember. It is something we carry with us into our classrooms, our communities and our futures.

Thank you to every learner, educator and staff member who shared a piece of their heritage with us today. You make LEAP a place where every culture is seen, celebrated and respected.
