St John's Christian Brothers' College

St John's Christian Brothers' College A top independent Catholic school in Cape Town for ages 2 to Grade 12 in the Edmund Rice tradition.

CBC St John’s Parklands is a vibrant independent Catholic school located in Parklands, a northern suburb of Cape Town. We are proud of our rich tradition, but we celebrate too our contemporary vision of academic excellence within a holistic educational environment. We are an intimate school with a family-like structure and this permits us to draw the very best from our students. Every individual is loved, supported and encouraged by a cadre of experienced and professional teachers. Our students enjoy a modern, well-equipped campus and can choose from a wide array of relevant academic and vocational subjects as they are prepared for the NSC examinations conducted by the WCED. We also afford ample opportunity for the development of sporting, spiritual and cultural awareness in our students. Our ultimate goal is to empower students to become bold, yet compassionate and committed members of society who reflect the selfless ethos of our founder, Blessed Edmund Rice.

Yesterday was a wonderful celebration of our Edmund Rice global community!

Our students joined peers from Peru, Hawaii, Uruguay and Argentina to explore Iona University, discovering its beautiful campus, diverse fields of study and many extracurricular opportunities.

The group then visited Iona Preparatory School, an Edmund Rice school and part of our global network. The young men of Iona Prep welcomed our students, led them on a tour, invited them into their classrooms, and shared singing and pizza together.

Days like this bring the Edmund Rice tradition to life; connecting young people across countries and schools through friendship, faith and a shared commitment to community.

Another busy day in New York City!

Yesterday, our students explored Hudson Yards and marvelled at the Vessel before walking the High Line and visiting Little Island.

They then took the Staten Island Ferry, passing the Statue of Liberty and enjoying views of the city from the water.

The visit to the United Nations was a highlight of the day, bringing to life many of the global issues, responsibilities and opportunities that our students will explore through the upcoming ACTION programme. Seeing the UN in person gave them a valuable opportunity to connect the ideas they discuss in the classroom with the organisations and people working to address them around the world.

They finished the day in Times Square, taking in the lights and atmosphere of New York at night.

Yesterday, our students met up with students from Stella Maris College in Uruguay and Cardinal Newman in Argentina. Together, they explored the Financial District before visiting the 9/11 Memorial, which was a particularly moving experience.

They then spent time exploring Little Italy and Chinatown, taking in some of the sights, sounds and culture of New York City.

It was wonderful to see students from different schools across our network connecting, sharing experiences and enjoying time together. These opportunities to build friendships across the Edmund Rice network are such a special part of the ACTION experience.

The past two days have been filled with memorable experiences as our students continued exploring New York City!

They spent time in Midtown, attended Mass at the beautiful St Patrick’s Cathedral, and visited the New York Public Library, where they marvelled at the incredible architecture and gallery displays.

They also made a trip to American Dream Mall — an experience unlike any shopping centre they have seen before!

Today, the students are meeting up with fellow students from Edmund Rice schools from around the world. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect, share experiences and build friendships before the ACTION programme officially begins.

The adventure continues!

Reading unlocks the doors to imagination, curiosity, and lifelong learning, laying the foundation for how children view and understand the world around them. Beyond building essential vocabulary and language skills, shared reading fosters empathy, focus, and critical thinking. Seeing our Grade 6 learners read to the Grade R class highlights the true magic of books—it bridges generations within the school, turning storytelling into a powerful moment of mentorship and connection. As our older students step up as confident role models, our youngest learners discover that reading isn't just an assignment, but a joy to be shared.
