Sadly, we bid farewell to Ms Mackay on 6 March 2020. We'd like to thank her for all she did for Tambi, she will certainly be missed.

We'd like to welcome Mrs Pettenuzzo back from maternity leave; she has taken over from Ms Mackay in Grade 2.
We trust that she will settle in quickly.

In the interest of the learners, it has been decided that Ms Maziwisa will stay on with her current Grade 3 class, and Mrs Pettenuzzo will continue with her Grade 2 class until the end of the year, contrary to previous communication, as this will be less disruptive for the learners.

Regarding the COVID-19 virus, please read this in conjunction with letters sent home via class dojo on 13 March 2020 and 16 March 2020. The upcoming school break has been extended, per instruction from the president, to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
This a precautionary measure and parents are please asked to remain calm.
Detailed planning of school work to be covered under parental supervision during the longer break will be issued with the term one school report. Please ensure that you check class dojo regularly for updates.

Furthermore, we urge our school community to continue taking the relevant steps to help curb the spread of the virus:
Wash hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve/elbow when you cough or sneeze.
(NOT YOUR HANDS). Discard of the tissue responsibly and wash your hands Avoid touching your face unnecessarily
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects or counters (phones etc.).
During this trying time, we ask our school community to remain positive — we will get through this together.
Please only consult reliable sources regarding the development of the virus and do not contribute to the spread of unnecessary panic. Parents may a!so refer to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) website for further guidance regarding the virus: www.nicd.ac.za. Additionally, the Department of Basic Education website may be consulted too for school related matters: www.education.gov.za.

The 24/7 COVID-19 toll-free number is: 0800 029 999.
New term dates are as follows:
Term one ends: Wednesday 18 March 2020
Term two starts: Tuesday 14 April 2020

Learners are encouraged to take advantage of the extended term break and read as much as possible. We also urge parents to plan educational activities and create opportunities for self-learning and e-learning (where possible), as opposed to endless hours in front of the TV or computer.

Regarding the installation of CCTV cameras in the classrooms 84.2% of the parents who participated in the survey are in favour of installing cameras in the classrooms. We'd like to thank those parents who participated for their effort.

Quite a few parents are sending their children to school with 'junk' food or insufficient food. Apart from the nutritional implications, inappropriate food and/or not enough food also contributes to concentration and behavioural issues in class. Kindly send enough healthy food to school to see your child through the day. As of term two, our newsletter will have limited space for advertising. Various packages are available; please contact the school office if you are interested.

On Saturday 29 February 2020, Tambi hosted its first fundraiser for the year — the Scooter Derby. Our learners had a tremendous amount of fun and we loved seeing their competitive spirit on the day. We'd like to extend a big thank you to those parents who supported us, as well as to Mrs Goff for arranging the ruby ball prizes, Mrs Rees for the vouchers, and Ms Bester for arranging the food truck.

The Book People will join us at school on 16 April 2020. Many books will be on sale, and our school library receives a portion of the profit. Parents, please support us in this regard.
On 24 April 2020, Tambi will celebrate World Book Day. We ask all our learners to please dress up as their favourite book character. Prizes will be available for the best dressed.

We'd also like to extend a warm welcome to Ms Sarembock who joins us as our school counsellor. The Inter-schools Athletics Day took place on 6 February 2020 at Jan van Riebeek High School.
Congratulations to all learners who participated. We'd like to thank our staff for their help and support, particularly Mrs V. Hendricks who coordinated, and our parents for supporting our athletes on the day. Official school photographs will be taken on 20 February 2020 at school; a separate letter has been sent home in this regard already. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct school uniform on the day. The SGB Bi melection will take place at 6pm on 20 February 2020 in the school hall. This was initially scheduled to take place on 13 February 2020 but has been moved due to the State of the Nation address. There is currently a moratorium on all school camps in the Western Cape in light of recent events in the news. More information regarding camps will be shared at a parents meeting to be held at 6pm on 20 February 2020 in the school hall. Grades 5, 6 and 7 parents are urged to attend.
The first fundraising event for the year takes the form of a Scooter Relay. This will take place on Saturday 29 February 2020 and promises to be great fun for the entire family. More information will be sent home in due course.
We regret to inform you that the Aftercare Centre is full for 2020 and, per health and safety regulations, no more learners may be admitted.
Related to the above, we have noticed that many parents are not collecting their children on time after school. A register is kept and relevant parents will be contacted in this regard. We do not have the capacity to look after children who are not enrolled in aftercare — please assist us by collecting your children promptly.
