Our heritage is found in many places. In the vineyards we work, the wines we make, the tables we gather around and the traditions that bring us together.
And sometimes, it looks a lot like a group of winemakers dressed in green, backing the Bokke with a cold one in hand.

Here’s to South African wine, South African spirit, good food, great company and everything that makes this country so uniquely ours.

The future of South African wine is only a bid away and it’s live now! 🍷

The 2026 Cape Winemakers Guild Protégé Auction takes place entirely online, meaning you can discover and bid on wines made by the next generation of South African winemakers, wherever you are in the world.
Every bid does more than secure a special bottle. Proceeds from the Protégé Auction support the CWG Protégé Programme, helping create opportunities, mentorship and practical experience for young winemakers as they build their careers.

Johannesburg, you showed up ready to taste, discover and ask all the right questions at our 2026 Cape Winemakers Guild Masterclass.
Guests had the opportunity to taste this year’s Auction wines, hear directly from the winemakers behind them, and get to know the stories, places and decisions that shaped each bottle.

But the Masterclass was only the beginning.

Welcome to the neighbourhood. 🍷📍
Just 50km from Cape Town, Stellenbosch is a place where mountains, vineyards, history and winemaking are all part of the landscape, and quite a few Cape Winemakers Guild members call it home.
But Stellenbosch isn't one singular expression. From Bottelary to Banghoek and beyond, changes in elevation, aspect, soils and climate create remarkably different growing conditions, sometimes just a few kilometres apart.
And then, of course, there are the winemakers.
Different varieties. Different philosophies. Different interpretations of place. All part of a winemaking community that has helped shape the story of South African wine.

Serious business before the first pour. 🍷
Before guests at our Cape Town Masterclass had their first taste of the 2026 Auction wines, our Guild members were doing some serious nosing of their own.
A final moment to assess the wines, share them amongst fellow members, and prepare to introduce each one to the room. The stories behind them, the decisions that shaped them, and what makes them worthy of the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction.
Then came the best part: sharing them with you.
Made individually. Shared collectively. And finally, tasted together. 🍷

Long before the bidding, there is the making.
The quiet hours in the cellar. The tasting, waiting, questioning and refining. The decisions that may seem small in the moment, but ultimately shape what ends up in the bottle.
For Cape Winemakers Guild members, every Auction wine is a chance to create something deeply considered. A wine that reflects their craft, their vintage and their individual expression as a winemaker.
By the time the bottle reaches the Auction, the work has already been done.

Every Auction wine starts with a place. But it is the winemaker who decides where to take it. 🍷
A vineyard planted generations ago. A maiden Guild vintage. A blend that captures a particular corner of the Cape. A wine shaped by decades of experience, or an idea a winemaker has been waiting to explore.

Each tells a different story.

By the time a wine becomes a lot number at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction, much of its story has already been written.

It began in the vineyard. In the decisions made through a particular growing season and vintage. In the cellar, through countless small choices, tastings and moments of instinct. It was shaped by the hands and experience of a winemaker who chose to make something they believed worthy of the Guild, produced in small quantities and exclusively for the Auction.

And eventually, that story arrives in a bottle.
A bottle becomes a lot.
And a lot finds its next custodian.

It begins long before the bidding does.
