Mrs Otto attended The Science of Reading course at CTLI last term. Here she shares not just the motivation for this particular approach; the methods and strategies of teaching using the approach with the rest of the staff, but also gives the rest of the staff, not in the foundation phase some insight into what's happening in the foundation phase grades where this approach is being used. Thanks, Mrs Otto! Your enthusiasm and sincere goal of giving the learners at Heideveld Primary the best education possible, is truly admirable and shared by your colleagues. We appreciate your hard work and dedication to our profession and the school community.

Fun and games at Heideveld Primary πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€. Our Grade 7s played a soccer ⚽️ match against the teachers today. Learners from Grade 1 to 7 cheered for both teams. Our Grade 7s gave their all against the teacher team. In the end the teacher team, which included some legends πŸ˜‰ the likes of Mr Desai, Mr Hendricks, Mrs October, Mr Abrahams, Mr Hanslo, Mr Benjamin, Mr Reid and others, was victorious. Great fun was had by the spectators and the players.

On Tuesday, 13th June 100 learners in our Foundation Phase were gifted blankets by the Turquoise Harmony Institute in collaboration with Star College Cape Town. This could not have come at a better time πŸ™ πŸ™‚ . We would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the aforementioned Institutions for spreading warmth and happiness during this bitterly cold and wet winter. May Turquoise Harmony Institute and Star College grow from strength to strength and may you reach and benefit many more lives with your outreach programs. πŸ™ 🀲
Ps. Thank you Kulsum Parker for including us in your blanket drive as well as the sandwich drive. πŸ₯ͺ

I loved having bedtime stories read to me when I was a girl, and I loved reading them to our daughter when she was a girl. I cannot imagine a childhood without the magic of the bedtime story. Thank you Dad.
