MUSICAL RASCALS - A Drumming Adventure! The Musical Rascals extra-mural programme is specifically designed to encourage the development of musical aptitude during the foundation phase of childhood development. Apart from being FUN, Musical Rascals also aids in:
* Mathematical Skills
* Spatial Orientation
* Focused Listening
* Co-ordination
* Motor Skills
* Confidence
* Musicality
* Creativity
The programme is aimed at children between the ages of 2 and 8 years old, and each week one of our enthusiastic and well trained instructors will tell an entertaining story about the adventures that the 4-legged "Rascals" go on, all the while exposing the listeners to musical concepts and experiences. For the duration of each lesson, every participant will receive a drum to play on, and will be encouraged through the use characters in the stories to learn to play them. The drum beats animate the characters and events within the stories and games, the difficulty of which will gradually develop as the year progresses, resulting in increased skill development. Each lesson is 30 minutes long and the programme runs for a period of 8 weeks during the school terms. The foundation phase is widely regarded as crucial for later achievement, and is also a time in which children are highly responsive to learning through the magical process of play. Musical Rascals thus aims to create a musical environment that is rich with new ideas, life lessons, musical concepts, and tools to encourage musical development through play, imagination, fantasy, storytelling and musical experience. We believe that reward and encouragement is a great catalyst for development, so at the end of the term, each child will receive a certificate to reward them for the new skills they have learned. At the end of each year we will hold an open lesson and prize giving which all the parents are invited to attend, participate in, and experience what we have been doing throughout the year. We are very excited about what we have planned for the children and would like to thank all the schools and parents for their support during this transition!
