600 cupcakes. 🧁🀍

But these were never just 600 cupcakes.

Our English teacher, Ms Hart, baked 600 cupcakes in honour of our Grade 12 learner, Babalwa Sibanda, who sadly passed away.

Babalwa was more than a learner in our school. She was a young person with dreams, a future and a place in our Holy Cross family. Losing a learner is a loss that stays with a school community, and her memory continues to hold a special place in our hearts.

Ms Hart took something she loves, baking, and turned it into a beautiful way to honour Babalwa’s memory while supporting an important cause.

The cupcakes were baked for Cupcakes of Hope, where they are sold to raise funds to support children affected by cancer. What began as 600 cupcakes became a gesture of love, remembrance and hope.

Ms Hart, thank you for using your heart, your hands and your passion to honour one of our own.

600 cupcakes. One beautiful tribute. A memory that will not be forgotten. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ€

In Loving Memory of Mrs Lilian van Wyk

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of our dedicated former staff members, Mrs Lilian van Wyk.

Mrs van Wyk joined Holy Cross High School in 1998 as our Senior English Teacher. She dedicated many years of her life to our school and retired at the end of 2019 as Deputy Principal.

For many of us, Mrs van Wyk was so much more than a teacher and Deputy Principal. She was a familiar and much-loved presence at Holy Cross for more than two decades. She believed strongly in teaching our girls not only academically, but also in how they carried themselves. She encouraged them to be young ladies β€” to show grace, dignity, respect and decorum, and to always remember that how we conduct ourselves says something about who we are.

Her words, her standards and her dedication left an impression on generations of Holy Cross girls.

Although she retired in 2019, her contribution to Holy Cross will not be forgotten. The lessons she taught, the standards she upheld and the lives she touched form part of the history and legacy of our school.

Today, we remember Mrs Lilian van Wyk with gratitude for the many years she gave to Holy Cross, and with sadness at the loss of a woman who was such an important part of our school family.

May she rest in peace.

Once a member of the Holy Cross family, always a member of the Holy Cross family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.

Holy Cross High community has been collecting bottle tops and bread tags for The Smile Foundation, an organisation that funds facial surgery and reconstructive procedures for children born with cleft palates.

These life-changing operations open the door to a brighter, smiling future for each child. They help children enjoy a more normal childhood, build confidence and social interaction, reduce the risk of bullying and teasing, and promote acceptance and inclusivity.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has kindly donated. πŸ’• Your contributions, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.

More bottle tops and bread tags are always welcome! ♻️

God bless you all for your generosity. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’™

Spreading Warmth, Love & Hope πŸ’™

The Holy Cross High Ethos and Outreach Teams recently joined hands with The Obs Knitters of the New Apostolic Church in a beautiful joint venture to knit blankets and dolls for children supported by the CHOC Foundation.

CHOC provides a home away from home for children with cancer who are receiving treatment at Red Cross Hospital. For many families, the journey can mean being away from home for months at a time, with mothers and their children facing the challenges of treatment together.

Through these handmade gifts, we hope to bring a little comfort, warmth and joy to these brave children during such a difficult time. 🧢🧸❀️

We wish all the children strength, healing and a speedy recovery. May God bless them and their families abundantly. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’™

πŸ•ŠοΈ Celebrating the Life of Babalwa Sibinda πŸ•ŠοΈ

It is with deep sadness that the Holy Cross High School family mourns the passing of one of our Grade 12 learners, Babalwa Sibinda, who passed away last Thursday.

Babalwa was a truly special young lady β€” a model learner, a wonderful person, and a valued member of our Holy Cross family. Her presence brought something special to those around her, and she will be remembered for the person she was, the friendships she formed, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind.

Our Grade 12 learners are grieving the loss of a friend and classmate, and our entire school community feels this loss deeply. It is never easy to say goodbye to one of our own, especially someone who still had so much life ahead of her.

Today, we choose to celebrate Babalwa's life β€” to remember her smile, her character, her kindness and the mark she left on those who knew her.

Babalwa, you will be awfully missed, but you will forever remain a part of the Holy Cross family. ❀️

Our deepest condolences go to Babalwa's family, friends, classmates and all those who loved her. May they find strength, comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest peacefully, Babalwa. You will never be forgotten. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ€

We are very proud to announce that Ropafadzo Faith took second place in the SACEE public speaking competition. The competition was tight, Reddam house, CBC St Johns, Wynberg, Monument Park, San Souci and more, but we competed well. Parklands college came in first place, and Heathfield third. These events really inspire and bring forth excellence in our girls. Faith’s persuasive speech was about freedom of speech having limits in a modern democracy.
