A bar stool that brings together natural materials and thoughtful design.

Combining the natural texture of cork with the solidity of concrete or the beauty of solid French Oak, each bar stool is paired with engineered steel and a smooth swivel function.

With years of experience in furniture design and making, we bring an appreciation for the finer details to every piece, creating furniture for both residential and commercial spaces.

Designed for 900mm or 1000mm counter heights, these bar stools are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with darker cork grades recommended for outdoor settings.

Shape One is a tall vase from our ceramic collection. Its stacked form brings a sculptural presence to a space. We’ve now developed a smaller version, which will be shown as part of our new collection at the end of October.

Each vase is made by hand in white clay, black clay or terracotta earthenware. Kevin applies multiple coats of reactive glaze, giving every piece a unique colour and finish.

We’re currently making vases for local and international clients. A selection of the tall vases is available to view at our showroom, 15 Baker Street, Observatory.

Introducing the Hugo Bench, our second collaborative bench with artist John Murray.

This second piece is a custom 1.7m version, created specifically for a client. John is incredible when it comes to custom commissions, and for this bench the client worked closely with him to develop the specific artwork and colour palette for the piece.

The colours of the legs were also carefully selected to reference tones within the artwork, ensuring that the overall piece feels balanced and considered.

Together, we developed the Hugo Bench as a collectible design piece that sits between furniture and art. It is fully functional, while also intended to be experienced as an artwork in its own right.

We are very happy that it has now found its new home.

Our Ceramic Display Bowl was designed with both styling and space optimisation in mind.

Over the years, I have collected a number of vintage timber pedestal bowls and have always been drawn to the way they create height within a space while still allowing the area beneath them to remain open and usable.

We wanted to develop our own interpretation of this type of object and translate it through the materials and skills that define our studio, particularly ceramics, hand-finishing and glazing.

Each Ceramic Display Bowl brings together sculptural form and function. The ceramic components are individually made and glazed, creating subtle variations that make every piece unique.

They are incredibly versatile objects and can be used for floral arrangements, fruit, collected objects, decorative displays or even for serving food. They are particularly effective for creating height within an interior or on a table while optimising the space underneath.

As with much of the work we produce at the studio, our intention was to create something that is not only practical, but also original, sculptural and collectable.

We currently have a small selection of Ceramic Display Bowls available to view at our Cape Town studio.

Untitled (after W.B.)
This is a particularly personal piece for me. It is the only bench I have ever made that directly reflects the techniques I learnt during my three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship with South African artist Wim Botha.

The piece was conceived around a sense of energy and movement. Each timber component is individually hand-machined and fitted. At one end, intricate timber joints build into a dense cluster of sharp bevelled angles. This forms the source, or origin, of the piece. From there, the geometry begins to break down into lines and facets that travel through the length of the bench, gradually becoming more controlled until they resolve into a precise point.

It was a way for me to translate techniques I had learnt while working with Wim into my own language as a designer, while also expressing my long standing love of working with timber. The construction methods themselves had been developed and refined over years, and I wanted that history of making to remain visible in the finished piece.

The bench is built around a 3-metre electro-galvanised mild steel structure with stainless steel legs and fittings, onto which the individually made timber elements are clad. The entire piece is finished in black, allowing the facets, shadows and changing planes of the timber to define the form.

Untitled (after W.B.) was created in 2014 for the Southern Guild Collection for Design Miami/Basel and was featured by Design Indaba in The Artist’s Apprentice.

More than a decade later, it remains an important piece for me. A record of what I learnt during that period, the influence of Wim’s work and approach, and how those techniques became part of my own development as a designer.

Untitled (after W.B.) is currently on show at our studio. Come by and see it in person.
