The Sunbird children and their families have been working hard this term to collect donations for TEARS. There was much excitement today as Tinka from TEARS, visited our school and brought along a furry friend, Jemimah. The children learned about what TEARS do and got to feed Jemimah some treats and get some cuddles. Jemimah is currently at TEARS and is up for adoption. Well done to our little Sunbirides on their generosity and kindness 🐱🐶

🤽 Outside Sporting Achievements – Part 4 | PPL Water Polo

What a showing from our Sun Valley water polo community at the Polo Premier League Cape Town tournament!

Across the U11 to U14 divisions, our learners represented a number of franchises and produced some fantastic results.

🏆 U11 PPL

Sofia represented the Reefs, who finished 1st overall. Ady, Willow and Ana represented the Tigers, who finished 2nd. Kara and Maliah also took part and had a great tournament experience.

Ana also had an outstanding tournament, scoring 10 goals.

Felix represented the Tigers U11 team, who finished 3rd, while Harry Bartlett's team finished 4th.

🏆 U12 PPL

Isla, Leah, Poppy and Riley helped the Tigers win the U12 final after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Emily's Reefs team finished 2nd, while Rebecca and Keren's Panthers finished 3rd. Bailey took part in the Kings U12 team and they had some incredible games. Ismail represented the Reefs, who also finished 2nd.

🏆 U13 PPL

Lily and Lily represented the Reefs, who were crowned U13 Champions! Leah represented the Panthers U13 Girls team, who finished 4th.

Saarah was named the Tigers U13 Marquee Player, contributing to 19 of the team's 24 goals across six matches, scoring 9 and creating 10.

Reuben represented the Leopards U13 team. Morgan represented an U13 Boys team that finished 2nd after losing the final in a penalty shoot-out.

🏆 U14 PPL

Mila represented the Tigers U14 Girls team, who finished 2nd in the tournament!

🏆 Two of our SVPS coaches were also part of the PPL as PPL Franchise coaches! Coach Jono coached the U14 Girls' Reefs team, and Coach Jess coached the U11 Boys' Tigers team.

An incredible tournament for our learners, filled with teamwork, competition and plenty of Sun Valley spirit!

Remembering Keith Richardson 🕊️

It is with great sadness that we remember Keith Richardson, a true pioneer in education, an exceptional leader and a mentor whose influence reached far beyond the schools he led.

Keith was a valued mentor to the Sun Valley Primary School leadership team. His wisdom, generosity and ability to challenge and inspire left a lasting impact on us and the many educators and leaders fortunate enough to learn from him.

Throughout his career, Keith shaped the lives of hundreds of students and made an extraordinary contribution to education across South Africa. Through his work with the Principals Academy of South Africa, he helped develop and inspire generations of school leaders and educators.

Keith believed deeply in people and understood that great schools are built by great leaders. His legacy lives on through the principals he mentored, the educators he inspired and the countless learners whose lives were shaped by his work.

We are incredibly grateful to have had the privilege of learning from him.

Thank you, Keith, for your wisdom, your passion and your unwavering commitment to education and developing people.

A remarkable educator. A generous mentor. A pioneering leader. A lasting legacy.

Rest in peace, Keith. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered. 🕊️

🚴🎾⛳ Outside Sporting Achievements – Part 3 | On the Move

From cycling to tennis and golf, our Sun Valley learners continue to take on new challenges and achieve amazing things!

Gabriel completed the 42km Cape Town Cycle Tour in 2 hours and 20 minutes on his own bicycle, at just 11 years old!

Sisters Isabella and Gabrielle competed in their first tennis tournament after only a few weeks of training at the South Peninsula Tennis Academy. Isabella reached the Quarter Finals, while Gabrielle made it all the way to the Final. 🎾

Luke has also been selected to represent Western Province at the prestigious Nomads SA U13 Championship at Goose Valley later this month. ⛳

What a fantastic collection of achievements and a wonderful reminder of what happens when you are willing to give something new a go!

🛟 Outside Sporting Achievements – Part 2 | Lifesaving Heroes

Our Sun Valley lifesavers have been making waves! 🌊

Freya represented Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club at both the Western Province and South African Lifesaving Championships. She placed 3rd in the U11 Open Water Swim at the provincial championships, before achieving two 4th-place finishes at Nationals in the Open Water Swim and Board Race.

Isla also had an outstanding performance at the Western Cape Stillwater Lifesaving Championships, bringing home four medals:

🥇 Ball Throw Relay
🥇 4x50m Medley Relay
🥈 50m Manikin Carry with Fins
🥉 4x25m Manikin Relay

She also placed 4th in the 100m Torpedo Buoy Rescue.

What a fantastic display of speed, skill, teamwork and determination!

🩰🎭🐴 Outside Sporting Achievements – Part 1

We love celebrating the incredible talent and dedication of our Sun Valley learners beyond the school gates!

Ady Hoffman had a fantastic year in ballet, earning a Diploma at the Cape Town Eisteddfod, 2nd place in the finals and selection to perform at Cape Town City Ballet’s Centre Stage at Artscape.

Erin Botha and Isla Conradie showcased their talent at the Western Cape Eisteddfod, with Erin achieving an A+ for Drama and Isla earning A+ results for both Drama and Monologue.

And in equestrian, Isla Graham represented the Western Cape at the South African Equestrian Championships in KZN. Her Cross Country team finished 1st overall, while she also achieved 3rd in the Inter-Provincial Equitation competition.

🏆 Mackenzie Cup | 1st Team Girls Polo 🏆

What a weekend for our 1st Team Girls Polo squad! 🤽🏼‍♀️

Our girls finished an incredible 4th out of 16 teams at the prestigious Mackenzie Cup, competing against the top schools in Cape Town.

The girls came out firing in the pool stages, sailing to the top of their pool and securing a place in the quarter-finals. They put in a fantastic performance in the quarter-final to book their spot in the semi-finals.

In the semi-final, we faced our rivals, Reddam, in a tough encounter that saw us put up a solid fight but ultimately, Reddam came out victorious. This meant a 3rd/4th place playoff against Herschel, where the girls fought right until the final whistle, narrowly losing by just one goal.

4th place out of 16 teams in a tournament of this calibre is an outstanding achievement and a reflection of the hard work, determination and commitment of this group of girls.

A huge well done to every player for representing our school with such pride and determination throughout the three days. We are incredibly proud of you!

A special thank you to Coach Jono for his passion, energy and unwavering commitment to our girls throughout the tournament. Your dedication makes such a difference.

And of course, a huge thank you to our amazing parents for the incredible sideline support throughout the weekend. Your cheers, encouragement and energy never went unnoticed! 📣
