At Afton Grove, we believe in nurturing the whole child.

Our small, structured classroom setting provides a supportive, sensory-sensitive environment where every learner is empowered to reach their full potential.

🏫 Movement doesn't need to be separate from learning—it should be part of it.
At Afton Grove, children thrive when we blend gross and fine motor development into the school day:
🔸 We start the morning with our Neuro-Developmental Movement Programme.
🔸 We use movement-based transitions (marching, animal walks)
🔸 We offer Brain and Movement Breaks

The brain learns best when the body is involved.
Let’s reimagine the classroom as a space for movement and mastery.

🎯 In remedial classrooms, we often jump straight to tracing letters or grip correction—but without stable posture and muscle control, it’s frustrating for the learner.

✋ True fine motor success begins with gross motor control.
📌 Combine seated desk work with movement-based activities like:
- Resistance bands on chair legs
- Writing on vertical surfaces (chalkboards, windows)
- Heavy lifting tasks before fine motor time

Small tweaks = big wins.

🧠 Gross motor movement isn’t just physical—it’s neurological.

Children in remedial education often face sensory processing and emotional regulation challenges.
Movement like balancing, jumping, or heavy work (carrying weighted objects) can regulate the nervous system, improving focus, mood, and learning readiness.

Think: a few minutes of gross motor activity before a writing task = a calmer, more focused learner.
📌 Use structured movement breaks to prep the brain for success.

✏️ Struggling with handwriting? Start with shoulders, not fingers.
In remedial learning, we often see children having difficulty with writing, cutting, or manipulating classroom tools. But the root issue can often be found in weak core and shoulder stability—part of their gross motor foundation.
💡 Activities like crawling, climbing, or wheelbarrow walking build the postural control and strength needed for fine motor tasks.
Strong bodies = stronger focus and writing stamina.

🧠 Early Signs of Autism: Early Intervention Makes a Difference 🧩
Early recognition of autism can help ensure that children get the support they need to thrive. Some early signs include delayed speech development, difficulty making eye contact, and repetitive behaviors.
✨ Interesting Fact: Research shows that early intervention, such as speech therapy or social skills training, can significantly improve the development and quality of life for children with autism. The earlier the support, the better the outcomes!

Awareness is key—let’s continue learning and supporting one another.
