SEED is an established, award-winning non-profit and public benefits organization operating from Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats. With 12 years experience in pioneering schools Permaculture programs in under-resourced schools in South Africa, SEED has grown the Outdoor Classroom Program to a national reach and is now receiving increasing recognition for its first Abundance Centre in Mitchells Plain. SEED has worked in multiple communities finding that our work meets the need for ecological literacy and food security in youth and also offers practical solutions for the accelerating climate and energy crisis through building local resilience, skills training and job creation well as broader schools education. From Mitchells Plain to Cambodia 🌍🌱

What a moment for SEED!

Our Director, Logie, took to the stage at GX 2026 Cambodia, sharing SEED’s story at the World Community Tourism Summit as part of “Changing Lives with Project 300.”

Our relationship with G Adventures and Planeterra has grown through welcoming travellers to SEED, where they get hands on in our gardens, planting, composting, learning, sharing meals and experiencing community led environmental work in action.

And now SEED’s story has travelled all the way to a global stage in Cambodia. 💚

We’re incredibly proud to see our little corner of Mitchells Plain represented in this space, learning from communities around the world and sharing some of what more than 20 years of SEED has taught us.

Sometimes local roots really do grow a very long way. 🌱🌍

🌱 RESILIENCE IS A SKILL — AND IT CAN BE BUILT.

What happens when life gets uncertain? When money is tight, when plans change, when your household has to adapt, or when you simply need the tools to keep going?

Our 3-Week Resilience Training is designed to help you build practical resilience — not just for difficult moments, but for everyday life.

Over 3 weeks and 3 focused modules, we’ll explore:

🌿 Personal Resilience — Build self-awareness, confidence and practical tools to navigate challenges and change.
• 🏡 Household Resilience — Learn practical ways to strengthen your household’s food, resource and everyday security.
• 💰 Financial Resilience — Develop practical skills for managing money, resources and financial uncertainty.

This is a hands-on, participatory training for young people who want to become more equipped, resourceful and resilient — and take those skills back into their homes and communities.

What a week its been!

200 employees. Two schools. One day of purpose. 🌱💚

What an incredible day it was yesterday alongside Sanlam and forgood, bringing people together to make a lasting difference for local school and communities.

As part of Sanlam Foundations employee volunteering programme, 200 employees joined SEED for an interactive planting workshop at Kasselsvlei Comprehensive High School and Cherè Botha Special School.

The day was filled with teamwork, creativity and plenty of soil! Employees painted colourful planter boxes before planting them with a variety of vegetable seedlings. These will remain at the schools, helping to provide fresh produce for the schools and local feeding initiatives for months to come.

It's amazing to see how a single day of volunteering can leave behind something that continues to grow, nourish and benefit an entire community.

A heartfelt thank you to Sanlam, forGood, everyone who rolled up their sleeves, and our incredible SEED team who worked behind the scenes to prepare every planter box, seedling and activity that made the day such a success.

Together, we're planting more than vegetables - we're growing food security, environmental awareness and stronger communities. 🌿

This Mandela Day, we chose to grow. 🌱

We spent our Friday alongside the incredible New Woodlands community in a garden that tells a powerful story. What was once a dumping ground is now becoming a place of growth, life, connection and purpose.

Transformation doesn’t always begin with grand gestures—sometimes it starts with a shovel, a seed, and people who believe their community can be something more.

A special shout-out to Gerald for spearheading this initiative and for inviting SEED to be part of the journey. Thank you for your vision, leadership and commitment to creating lasting change in your community.
