Wynberg Boys’ High School shares with profound sadness the passing of Keith Richardson, former Headmaster and one of the most significant figures in our school's history.

Keith first joined the Wynberg staff in 1975. After a brief period away from the school, he devoted four decades to Wynberg, returning to continue a remarkable career of service, leadership, and commitment to generations of Wynberg boys.

He served as Headmaster of Wynberg Boys’ High School from 1999 to 2015, leading the school with distinction. His contribution extended far beyond his time as Headmaster. As a teacher, mentor, colleague and leader, he played an instrumental role in shaping the character, culture and direction of the school.
Keith’s deep love for Wynberg, his dedication to education and his unwavering commitment to the young people entrusted to his care have left an enduring legacy. His influence will continue to be felt through the countless students, staff members, families and Old Boys whose lives he touched.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife, Pippa, his son Toto, his family, friends, former colleagues and the wider education community.

The Wynberg family mourns the loss of a remarkable educator and leader, while remembering his extraordinary life of service with immense gratitude and affection.

May he rest in peace.

Equally at ease with his classmates at his 10-year Matric reunion at the Bill Bowden Pavilion last month, as with the who's who of international art at his latest exhibition in Johannesburg, our Culture Prefect 2016 is stamping his name as a sculptor of renown. From Sweet Valley Primary to WBHS Grade 8 in 2012, Cassian Robbertze's creative journey, turning his extraordinary talents into a career while maintaining a gentle mentoring presence with our Visual Arts students epitomises the 'ties that bind us' as brothers in an endless chain. Cassian was part of Mrs Mandy Colman's student design team who conceptualised and completed the bronze frieze in the Clegg Hall Foyer depicting the 4 Pillars of Wynberg. The work began in their Grade 10 year, guided to completion by legendary SA sculptor, Jeanne Doyle, and unveiled at our 175th celebrations by our 11th Headmaster, the late Rowan Algie, who brought the 4-pillar concept to WBHS.

The 'Mirrored Futures' art exhibition runs from 5 to 30 September 2026 at the Daytona Showroom in Johannesburg, presented in partnership with Artyli Gallery. The exhibition explores the intersection of nature, technology, and humanity. Dr Paula Anta focuses on the organic rhythms of the natural world through photography set against gold leaf, while Cassian Robbertze uses digital creation and bronze sculpture to blend human and machine forms.

In Memoriam - Michail Kasfikis (Matric, 2023)

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Michail Kasfikis, who passed peacefully in his sleep.

Michail was a young man of quiet determination, integrity and sincerity. He approached life with purpose and a willingness to learn, always open to guidance and committed to doing things properly. His strong work ethic, gentle nature and kindness made him a valued member of the Wynberg community. He will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our deepest condolences go to Michail’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to them and respectfully ask that their privacy be honoured as they grieve their loss.

May he rest in peace.

Thursday, 20 August 26: Old Boys of the Class of 1976 gathered at the Bill Bowden Pavilion for a spit braai after tours of the school and Oude Wijnberg Museum. Joined by four of their WBHS teachers, Keith Richardson, Neil Crawford, Barry Greenwood, and Lindsay Eachus, the afternoon rolled out memories and anecdotes of their school days, to finish with a poignant tribute to those of their class who've passed on. In their memory a tree has been planted near the Hawthornden Field and a plaque was unveiled by Graeme Spolander (1974 - brother to the late Myles, 1976). MC, Chris Hyland (1976 and Patron of Wynberg Hockey), concluded by presenting Deon Scheepers with a water colour by the late Mike Burger (1976), to be displayed in the school corridors.
