🎓 Today was a special moment for our Grade 12s as they celebrated their Valedictory and reflected on the journey that brought them here and looked ahead to what's next. ✨

One of our Grade 12s shared some heartfelt words:

Good morning Principal Lauren, teachers, parents, guests, and fellow learners. It is an honour to stand before you today as we celebrate the end of our school journey.

When I joined LEA in Term 3 last year, I was stepping into an unfamiliar environment at a time when many friendships and routines were already established. Like any new learner, I was nervous about fitting in and finding my place. What I found instead was a community that welcomed me and helped me grow.

I would like to thank all the teachers that have helped me and given me advice that I will carry on with me into the future. I would like to thank Danny for all the help and time she has given me, as I wouldn't have done so well without her. I would like to thank Counsellor Erin for all the talks and advice she has given me over the year and for always being someone who I felt I could always go to for help. Thank you, Principal Lauren, for always seeing someone who could achieve amazing things when no one else could.

Thank you to my classmates for always putting a smile on my face when some days I barely had the energy to even get up that morning. Thank you for always not making me feel alone in this weird and crazy world. I'm so grateful to have classmates who make me feel like I have a place in this school and never let me be alone with what I feel.

Honorary moments of Grade 12:

When our class was reading The Crucible, we decided to act as the characters and give them voices. We ended up making Jenna laugh because of how funny we were.

During Afrikaans class, Charlotte told us about how there's an Afrikaans version of 67. She hated it. From that day onward, I have always said 67 in Afrikaans to Charlotte every morning.

I've learnt a lot this year, not just about myself but also about how the world works, and the most valuable thing in life I've learnt is that school education doesn't cater to everyone and that's okay because your marks don't define who you are as a person or how bad you did on a test. What defines you is you.

⚓🚢 Our Intermediate Phase learners enjoyed a fascinating outing to the SA Naval Museum and SAS Assegaai Submarine earlier in September with Teachers Megan and Martin.

They got to experience the confined, sometimes claustrophobic conditions aboard the submarine, giving them a glimpse into what life at sea was really like.

A wonderful opportunity to explore history and naval life up close!

🚒 Our favourite type of learning (the hands-on kind) was in full effect recently when our Foundation Phase learners visited the Lakeside Fire Station.

They had the chance to explore the fire trucks, get to grips with the hoses, and learn more about the important work our local firefighters do.

They also arrived with a little something to give back, donating goodies to help keep the firefighters powered throughout the day. ❤️

Our Senior Phase recently learners put their marketing skills into practice by running their very own marketing stall as part of their EMS Accounting module with Charlotte. 📊🛍️

It was a great opportunity to take what they’ve been learning in class and apply it in a real-world setting, from planning and marketing to interacting with 'customers' and managing the business side of the stall.

Cape Town may have slipped back into winter mode, but 1 September gave us the perfect Spring Day to get outside and enjoy the sunshine! 🌱🌿

Our learners spent the day at Spoon Street Park, getting hands-on with nature as they helped plant a variety of flowers. It was a lovely opportunity to get their hands in the soil, appreciate the natural world around them, and enjoy learning beyond the classroom. 🪴

For Women's Month in August, LEA worked with the Caring Hearts Society to contribute to their Bloom With Dignity Campaign.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support such a meaningful initiative centred around dignity, compassion and care, and to play a small part in making a difference in the lives of women in our community.

At LEA, we know that learning in one subject often helps us make sense of another. 🔎

Our Grade 4 learners recently explored volume and capacity in Maths with Teacher Martin, by using Science apparatus like beakers, flasks, droppers and measuring jugs.

By measuring, comparing and experimenting with different containers, they were able to apply their Maths learning in a practical, hands-on way and see how ideas can connect across subjects.💡

Here's a sneak peek into what our Grade 2/3 class has been getting up to with Teacher Caitlin! 🌟

From working in their Maths textbooks, testing their understanding of fractions in a quiz-show challenge, and practising the spelling of number names while playing Jenga, to English orals about the "community helpers" they’d like to become one day, there’s been plenty of learning happening through fun and engaging activities! 📚🧩🎲

Our recent Movement Period with our Intermediate Phase learners was full of fun, laughter and a little bit of creative problem-solving! 🤸‍♀️✨

The challenge? Use only their feet to move cones across the studio!

It was definitely trickier than it sounds, but our learners embraced the challenge, worked together and had plenty of laughs along the way.
