The Alliance Française du Cap is a South African non-profit organisation founded in 1959. Its aims at promoting French language and francophone cultures. Situated in a superb space in the heart of the city, the Alliance Française du Cap is a South African non-profit organisation founded in 1959. The Alliance aims at promoting French language and francophone cultures within the larger framework of intercultural exchanges between France, Francophone countries and South Africa. It is an apolitical and non-denominational body that is linked to the network of the Fondation Alliance Française in Paris whose origins date back to 1883. The Alliance Française du Cap is supported by the French Embassy in South Africa and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Boasting a spacious 100 m² gallery with a hosting capacity of up to 150 people, the Alliance organizes frequent cultural events which build student loyalty and also allow the greater public to get to know the Alliance. In order to elaborate its cultural programming, the Alliance of Cape Town works in partnership with DGAF (Délégation Générale de l’Alliance Française de Paris), IFAS (Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud), the French Embassy, and CulturesFrance/French Association for Artistic Action (several AF network tours were organised in partnership with DGAF and IFAS). The AF also works with numerous South African partnerships: Artscape (Cape Town Opera), Cape Town Jazz Festival etc. A special partnership with France Volontaire, Région Réunion and FEDER (European Found) give us the opportunity to promote "metissage" (mixing cultures) through artists from Reunion Island.

🌿 AKASHIA | A RITUAL PERFORMANCE 🌿

What happens when music, movement and storytelling meet beneath the acacia?

On Friday 9 October, South African healer-musician Gershan Lombard and French artist Clara van Or come together for Akashia — a ritual performance inspired by the symbolism of the acacia and its connection to something deeper. ✨

Through music, movement and storytelling, Akashia invites us into an artistic encounter where sound becomes a portal, the body becomes a storyteller, and the audience becomes part of the experience.

Join us at Alliance Française Cape Town for the October First Thursday opening of Where the Water Runs Deep, an exhibition by South African multidisciplinary artist Milli McGregor. 🌊

Working across painting and ceramics, Milli draws inspiration from water and the natural world. Her richly layered compositions bring together vivid colour, organic forms and a strong sense of movement, inviting viewers to pause and look beneath the surface.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS | CONNECT & CREATE

Are you a professional in the performing arts or music sector, based in sub-Saharan Africa, with 2–5 years of experience supporting artists?

Connect & Create is launching a one-year mentoring programme for early-career professionals working in management, production, distribution, administration and communications.

The programme includes:
→ Individual mentoring with an experienced professional based in Africa or Europe
→ Group workshops and skills development
→ An immersive trip to a major cultural event in Africa
→ Opportunities to build professional networks across Africa and Europe
→ A €7,500 grant for each participant’s organisation to support its development

15 professionals will be selected for the 2027 programme.
