Cass Abrams is deeply woven into the story of Silwood. Through all her years as a celebrated chef, cookbook author and foremost authority on Cape Malay cuisine, she remained a cherished part of the Silwood family.

Throughout her career, Cass returned to Silwood each year to demonstrate Cape Malay cuisine, sharing her knowledge, traditions and love of cooking with generations of students.

Cass and Lesley Faull were the closest of friends, travelling the country together and sharing their skills at food shows and demonstrations. That special friendship continued across three generations of Silwood, with Lesley’s daughter, Alicia Wilkinson, and granddaughter, Carianne Wilkinson.

Our deepest condolences, love and thoughts are with her family. Cass leaves behind an extraordinary culinary legacy and will be deeply missed.

We are sure that Lesley, Peter Veldsman, Michael Olivier and Topsy Venter are having a wonderful catch up feast with Cass in the sky. Alicia Wilkinson Carianne Wilkinson

Back where it all began 👨‍🍳

This week, Justin returned to Silwood School of Cookery, to share his passion for premium seafood with the next generation of culinary talent.

By understanding seasonality, responsible sourcing and the incredible diversity our oceans have to offer, young chefs can help shape a more sustainable future for seafood while creating exciting new dining experiences.

It was a privilege to visit and hopefully inspire a few more chefs to cook with curiosity!
