In order to work as a Tourist Guide a person must be registered with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tours (DEAT).
Tourist Guide Institute offers both full time and part time online tour guide courses to individuals who want to become registered tourist guides in South Africa. Normally whale season is July - November in Cape Town and Overberg where we see the Southern Right, Humpbacked, Brydes whales and Orcas. The Humpbacked and Southern Right go south early December and return around July. But whales are seen up the West Coast in summer. The Brydes Whales are not really migratory but prefer warmer waters so will head north during the cold winter months of Western Cape.
