PPS Training Academy (Project Planning and Scheduling Training Academy) provides practical project planning training for project planners and schedulers.
PPS Training Academy was founded by Willem van der Merwe and Owen Bosman. Together they have more than 56 years of planning experience. What makes this combination so successful is partially because they come from different backgrounds and have different expertise. Willem has a mechanical engineering background with strong tuition skills and has mostly used MS Projects to do project planning where
as Owen has a civil engineering background with strong IT skills and mostly use Primavera Project Planner. Having both their own businesses which provides planning services to large and medium size companies, they regularly had to face the consequences of not having access to a proper in-depth training program for their Project Planners, hence had to spend many hours to bring planners up to scratch. A few short courses are offered which cover scheduling theory and a few other topics, but none which offers adequate training to equip Project Planners with enough knowledge and skill to be able to schedule a project, update the schedule correctly and report progress and other project related issues accurately. What makes this even worse, is the misconception that a course in a scheduling software package like Primavera or/and MS Projects will be sufficient to school an aspiring Project Planner in the required skills to schedule and report on multimillion dollar projects. During the course of 2015 and 2016, they wrote the first of 2 books which cover the topic of practical project scheduling, and compiled the first of 2 study guides. The first book with the study guide offers a 4 month course with 7 modules covering the following topics:
- MODULE 1 – PROJECT MANAGEMENT TERMINOLOGY & WBS
- MODULE 2 – SCHEDULING THEORY
- MODULE 3 – SCHEDULE DEVELOPMENT AND ACTIVITIES
- MODULE 4 – RESOURCING, WORKING TIME AND SCHEDULE MANAGEMENT
- MODULE 5 – REPORTING
- MODULE 6 – PROJECT PHASES, SCHEDULE LEVELS, RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT AND UPDATING
- MODULE 7 – PRACTICAL SCHEDULE BUILDING
Book 2 – Advanced
Book 2 is now in progress, and should be completed early 2018. This book covers more in-depth topics like, Advanced scheduling techniques, Data management, Risk management, Schedule Contract management, Cost, Earned Value etc. To our knowledge, nothing like this exists in the industry, and after completing the full course, the learner will be able to handle any type of project, irrespective of the complexity and demands of the project.
