hosted the 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, which took us on a journey into heritage, exploring how young people experience it, engage with it, and learn from it.

In collaboration with and Western Cape Government Museums, young people spent the weekend reflecting, writing and sharing 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀, 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

We’re excited to see how these explorations come together as we head into this September, and to 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 as they explore who they are and how their heritage shapes the way they show up in the world today.

Today, we honour our country’s history and the women who shaped a future founded on equality, dignity and hope.

Yet, women’s rights in South Africa still have a long way to go. There is an urgent need for greater attention to women’s voices, safety, rights, well-being and care — and to confront the reality of gender-based violence.

Let us continue to shape this country as women, in community, in conversation, and in meaningful collaboration with the men of our country.

Let us continue to challenge the divisions that separate us and work towards healing the wounds within the human family.

Let us continue to create a South Africa where every woman can live with dignity, safety, freedom and hope.

Bukho will be remembered for his kind and helpful nature, and most especially missed by his 24 ALPHA brothers. Deepest condolences to the Matabeni family for your devastating loss. Our prayers go out to his parents and family members during this heart-breaking time.

Rest in Peace 24 ALPHA brother. Our memories of you will remain in our hearts.

Day 2 of the Youth in Action Expo at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is well underway.
