Floreat Primary Prefects Annual Year-end Trip to! Khwa ttu San Culture and Education Centre in Yzerfontein - what a blast!

Our young leaders had the opportunity to:

🦓🐢Go on their first Game drive with sightings of Bontebox, Angulate tortoise, Zebra, Guinea fowls, Springbok, Rooibok, Eland, Ostrich, Wildebeest, Weavers and a Yellow-billed kite and Heron overhead!

🌿🍵Enjoy a Tea Tasting experience and learn about various uses of garden herbs

🛖👣Explore the three interactive exhibitions - First People, Encounters and The Way of the San, as our guide taught us about our shared heritage with the San and their way of life, both in days past as well as in present day.

Our leaders also got the opportunity to reflect on their year as servant leaders in preparation for their entry into high school.

Thank you to Prescient Foundation and the !Khwa Ttu staff for creating this memorial experiential learning opportunity for our young leaders!

YOUNG LEADERS SUMMIT UNIVERSITY

On Saturday, 27 September our Prefects had the privilege of attending the Young Leaders Summit alongside other school leaders and hosted by Prescient Foundation at Stellenbosch University

This enriching experience included a campus tour, offering insight into University life and opportunities. Learners also engaged in inspiring sessions led by Prof. Jonathan Jansen (Education) , Dr Lynne Damons (Educational Psychology) and Dr Chrischar Rock (Curriculum Studies) focusing on leadership qualities, goal setting through vision boards and exploring future career paths.

The day placed emphasis on the Prefects that they are ‘Made for More’. The summit was a valuable and enjoyable experience for all who attended!

Thank you to Prescient Foundation for this wonderful learning opportunity for our learners!

**Learner Leaders' Day at Simon's Town Naval base**

Today our Prefects attended an educational excursion to the South African Navy Museum in Simon's Town, where they had the opportunity to tour the facility and explore South Africa’s rich naval history.

The visit provided valuable insights into the country's maritime heritage and highlighted potential career and service opportunities within the South African Navy.

The Prefects thoroughly enjoyed their experience! 🇿🇦

"When young leaders rise, communities thrive!"

We are so proud to watch on as our young leaders grow in capacity and resilience through each new activity and opportunity they grab with both hands.

Thank you Prescient Foundation and The Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology for hosting this recent Young Leaders Summit earlier in June! Thank you too for being constant partners with us at Floreat Primary School as we capacitate our young leaders to rise and thrive.

LEADERSHIP EVENT 1 OF 2025:
27 FOR FREEDOM 5km Fun Run - Walking in the footsteps of Madiba 35 years on!

On Saturday our Grade 7 learner leaders, 5 staff and a parent enjoyed the first leadership outing for the year to Correctional Facility in Paarl to participate in the annual 27 FOR Freedom Fun Run - an event that commemorates 11 February 1990 - the day that Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela walked out the gates of the, then known Victor Verster Prison - a free man at last, after spending 27 years behind bars as a political prisoner in his own country by the South African Apartheid state.

Though there had been much happening behind the scenes that led up to this day, 11 Feb. 1990 was the day that the world saw evidence of the tide starting to turn towards a free South Africa for all.

As our country is still on this journey towards freedom for all, this outing made it possible for our leaders of tomorrow to be exposed to this historic moment in world history.

Of course, no fun run is complete without a return bus trip of snoring beauties and 25 exercise-stuff pairs of legs at school on Monday! 😋

Thank you to Prescient Foundation for making this memorable event possible for our young leaders, and to Andrea and Top Events SA for always ensuring race logistics are simple for our group! 🙏

Last week Saturday our Grade 7 prefect group celebrated their successful year as servant leaders, at !Khwa Ttu San Heritage Centre near Yzerfontein!

The morning started with a short walk along a stretch of beach between Blouberg and Atlantic Beach, followed by a multi-sensory tour of the three exhibitions that make up the Heritage Centre - First People, Encounters and The Way of the San. This ended with learners being treated to herbal tea tasting in the centre's medicinal garden.

After lunch another highlight was the game drive around the nature reserve in an open-air 4x4 truck! Though it was midday, the group spotted zebra, eland, springbok, bontebok, and even a snake who got up onto its 'haunches', clearly upset by the disturbance to its peace and quiet, made by this large, noisy diesel engine-sounding vehicle!

Heartfelt thanks to Prescient Foundation for partnering with us to make this excursion possible, and to the Khwa ttu staff for so generously hosting our learners with this phenominal full day of new experiences - for the third year in a row!

Weaved between activities, the servant leaders had opportunties to reflect on their year, each one doing so in earnest, and with a level of maturity that made the adults present very proud.

A throwback to Saturday, 9 November when the prefects completed a challenging 4 hour hike up to Elephant’s Eye Cave from Tokai Arboretum!

At the Prefects camp earlier this year, the prefects attempted to reach Elephant’s Eye
but had to turn back before getting to the top due to time constraints. So well done to each prefect for completing your "unfinished business" with Table Mountain - heavy uphills, steep downhills, baboons and all - and such a well sought-after 'bucket-list' hike, at that!

Thank you to Chrysalis Academy, Tokai 's project manager Ashwyn Clayton for so generously guiding us up and back!
