The studios are buzzing, the walls are filling, and our students are putting the final touches in place for Blossom and Bite.

From the first idea to the final installation, this is the moment where all that making, experimenting and creating comes to life.

Blossom and Bite opens Wednesday at 17:00!

Second year student Juan-Ridge Isaacs Juan-Ridge describes the title as the unveiling of artistic voices, with the bite standing for the critiques faced and the uncomfortable risks taken.

That is a fair description of second year at any art school. It is a rarer thing to see it said out loud on the wall.

Happy Heritage Day!

Ruth Prowse opened in 1970 as a non-discriminatory art centre, at a time when that was a deliberate act rather than a policy statement.

Over fifty years later, the same building in Woodstock is still teaching people to make things.

Heritage is not only what a place inherited.

It is what it decided to keep doing.

Ever wondered how a simple piece of cuttlefish can become a beautiful, handmade silver pendant?

Join metalsmith and RPSA lecturer Steve Adams for a hands-on workshop where you'll carve your own design, melt metal, cast your pendant, and finish it with a bright polish.

Get creative, explore the studios, and leave with a piece of jewellery you've made yourself.

Learning to see beyond white.

For their latest project, our Fine Art 2 students turned their attention to the subtle complexity of white through a carefully observed acrylic still life.

Working with skulls, fabric, flowers and vessels, students explored how light, colour, temperature, texture and reflection transform what we perceive as white. Through warm imprimatura, tonal underpainting and successive layers of glazing, each painting was built slowly from observation.

The project also invited students to consider the quieter meanings within their arrangements, ideas of transience, stillness, symbolism and the associations carried by flowers and the colour white.

One of these workshops turns a milk carton into a printing plate.

• Tetra Pak Etching, with Eunice Geustyn.

A recycled carton, cleaned and cut open, becomes an intaglio plate you scratch, ink and print on a proper etching press.

Eunice is a master printmaker who has published editions for established artists.

Tuesday 22 September.
