We love providing families struggling with the impact of poverty, unemployment and injustice, with a food hamper in December.

We do this every year and it truly makes things a bit easier for families.

We hope to provide even more this coming Christmas!

The City Mission team and community are delighted to welcome Lorencia Lucas! A born-and-bred Capetonian, Lorencia is the new smile that greets us all (staff, guests, partners, volunteers, students, donors and clients) at our home base in Salt River.

Lorencia studied Office Administration for three years, including a one-year practical internship at NSFAS, and is now studying theology part-time. She's a self-confessed bookworm, loves relaxing on the beach in her spare time, and has just got engaged to the love of her life!

Her current favourite scripture is Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."

When we asked what she loves about working at City Mission, she said: "The people! The staff team and my colleagues are amazing, loving people. It's a peaceful environment, even when it's busy. I love knowing that what we do is helping people, because that is my heart, whether it's a client who comes to our programmes or someone at the door needing a cup of coffee and bread."

Lorencia is a joyful addition to the team, and we are grateful for her gifting, servant heart and welcoming presence.

16 weeks. Rain or shine. Every single week.

This past week we celebrated the graduation of an incredible group of women who completed both our Her Dignity course and our Introduction to Computers skills course.

The journey began with healing and wellness, restoring confidence and a sense of worth. Then it moved to practical upskilling: digital skills that open doors to work, further study and new opportunities.

Every woman in this group finished well. 🎓

At the celebration, leader of Her Dignity, Blondy, reminded us that through Christ, "we are the light", and that we carry that light to others through leadership and joy. That is exactly what we hope for: women who don't just grow themselves, but lift others as they go.

"You are the light of the world." (Matthew 5:14)

Congratulations, ladies. We are so proud of you. And a big thank you to our facilitators, volunteers and partners who make programmes like this possible.

Today we host a graduation ceremony and celebration lunch for all the women who completed the Her Dignity journey and the Introduction to Computers with us.

We celebrate these women today - for their courage, fortitude and strength to keep moving forward.

One of our favourite things is when a past client pops in to let us know how they are doing! Nokuthula Ngcobo came for a surprise visit this month and we could not have been happier to see her.

She says:

"I was part of City Mission for the last three years; I was in the Lifeskills and Computer Literacy programmes. When I arrived, I was in bad shape, so low I was thinking of killing myself, but BraDumza and SisBlondy helped me so much in learning how to deal with life's situations. I found work at KFC and then entered the Call Centre industry where I was quickly promoted to Quality Assurance. I give thanks to Carmen and the City Mission team. They helped me with money for job-hunting too. I am very thankful for you all at City Mission. I hope you will be able to continue to help people, and save lives, as you did mine. One day I will come and give funds back so you can help the next person. I love you City Mission. God bless."

Thank you to all who made it possible for us to walk alongside Nokuthula in her journey.

A very special day this week as we celebrated the Graduation from our most recent training course that equips people with computer skills as well as general life skills. We are grateful for each and every client, and everyone who helps make this work possible.

Happy Friday!
