What if just 5 simple sentences could change your child's life? ❤️

Long after they forget the toys you bought or the meals you cooked, they'll remember how your words made them feel.

Make sure your child hears these every single day:

❤️ "I love you."
🌟 "I'm proud of you."
🤗 "I'm here for you."
💪 "I believe in you."
✨ "You matter."

These words take only a few seconds to say, but they can build a lifetime of confidence, security, and self-worth.

💬 Which of these do you say most often? Or which one do you want to say more? Share your answer below!

❤️ Comforting children after stress helps them feel safe again.

What does a stressful day look like for your little one?

For a young child, stress does not always come from something big. Sometimes it can be:

🧸 Losing a favourite toy or something they love.
😴 Not sleeping long enough or not sleeping well.
🔄 A change in routine, place or people.
😔 Things not going the way they expected.
🧩 Trying something new or finding something difficult.
💬 Feeling frustrated because they cannot yet explain what they want or need.

Young children are still learning how to understand and manage their big feelings. They need caring adults to help them feel safe and supported.

What can we do at home?

❤️ Stay close. Your presence can help your child feel safe.

👂 Listen and acknowledge. You might say, “I can see that you are upset.”

🤗 Offer comfort. A cuddle, a gentle touch or simply sitting nearby can help.

💬 Give feelings words. “You are sad because your toy is lost.”

🌱 Be patient. Give your child time to calm down and try again.

🏡 Bring back familiar routines. Predictable moments can help children feel secure.

⭐ Encourage their efforts. Notice when they try, even when something is difficult.

Remember, children don't need us to make every difficult feeling disappear. They need caring adults who can stay with them through those feelings and help them feel safe again.

Small moments of comfort today can help children build confidence and resilience for tomorrow.

❤️ Strong relationships help children learn, grow and thrive.

A warm, loving relationship between a child and their caregiver helps children feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

But parents should not have to do this alone.

At Children at the Centre SA, we believe that parents and caregivers are central to creating children's everyday experiences of love, safety, learning and belonging.

🌱 Parents at the Centre™

So we want to start a conversation:

What do parents need in order to give children the best possible start in life?

What would help you feel more supported, confident and able to give your child the best possible start?

💬 We would love to hear from you, share your thoughts. Your voice matters.

Let's Play! Your baby understands more than they can say. 💛

A simple play basket can create wonderful opportunities for learning, connection and conversation.

Fill a basket with everyday household items, such as:
🧺 A soft ball
🥄 A wooden spoon
🥤 A cup
🧦 A sock
🪥 A brush
🧸 A soft blanket
🎶 A homemade rattle

As your baby explores, talk about what they are seeing, touching and doing.

Give words to each object:
"This is a spoon."
"Here's a soft blanket."
"Can you find the ball?"

Describe the actions:
"Let's roll the ball."
"Shake the rattle."
"Tap the spoon."
"Pat the blanket."

Talk about how things feel:
Soft.
Smooth.
Bumpy.
Warm.
Cold.

Talk about feelings too:
Happy.
Curious.
Excited.
Calm.
Cozy.

Your baby may not be talking yet, but they are listening, learning and building their vocabulary with every conversation you have together.

Every word, every smile and every shared moment helps build your baby's brain, confidence and love of learning.

💚 Play. Talk. Listen. Describe. Enjoy.

Because you are your baby's first teacher, first conversation partner and favourite person.
