PARENTING TIP – THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

Reading is one of the most valuable gifts you can give your child. Spending just a few minutes each day reading together can have a significant impact on your child's development.

Benefits of reading include:

• Building vocabulary and language skills.
• Developing listening, concentration, and memory skills.
• Stimulating imagination and creativity.
• Learning about emotions, relationships, and the world around them.

Try and make reading books with your children a daily habit at home. Whether you tell them a bedtime story or read a picture book together, every reading and listening experience helps your child grow and learn.

INTRODUCING CHANTEL JANSEN VAN VUREN

1. What is your role at Peak Child?
I am the Principal of Peak Child Bellville and Class 4 Teacher.

2. How long have you worked at Peak Child?
Since 1 February 2025
3. What do you enjoy most about being a pre-school teacher?
I love being able to shape young minds. I always knew I had a passion for teaching. It brings me great joy to see the children learn and grow. I love the excitement and joy on their faces when they give you hugs and when they reach a milestone. It is wonderful helping them build that foundation.

4. What is a little-known fact about yourself?
I enjoy building puzzles. A 1500 piece is my favourite one.

5. With regards to the weekly Activity Cards we post, what has been your favourite theme to teach and why?
My favourite theme would be farm animals. There are so many things you can teach children about these animals and being able to pretend to be different farm animals is fun.

WHAT WE VALUE – THE WOMEN OF PEAK CHILD
August is Women's Month in South Africa - a time when we honour the resilience, care and leadership that women bring to everything they touch. At Peak Child, we see this every day in the Principals, Teaching staff and Cooks, and in the mothers, gogos, aunts and guardians who hand us their most precious person each morning and trust us to care for them as their own. Education is a partnership between families and schools, and this month we celebrate the women who stand on both sides of that partnership - teaching, guiding and nurturing every day with love and consistency. INTRODUCING COURTNEY BEGINT

1. What is your role at Peak Child?
I’m the Teacher of class 2.

2. How long have you worked at Peak Child?
I’ve been working at Peak Child for 1 year and 4 months.

3. What do you enjoy most about being a pre-school teacher?
I enjoy figuring out how to connect with the more challenging children. I find it so interesting to connect the dots and read up on different methods to help them, and it brings me so much happiness seeing how excited their faces are to see me every day.

4. What is a little-known fact about yourself?
I have a big love for drama and truly believe it can be so beneficial for young children.

5. With regards to the weekly Activity Cards we post, what has been your favourite theme to teach and why?
My favourite theme is My Feelings. Through my volunteer work running programmes in local communities and schools, I’ve seen how important it is to teach both boys and girls about their emotions and how to express them. Helping young children understand their feelings gives them such a strong foundation.
