Montessori Online Book Club | Session 4 π
In Session 4, we will be exploring Chapter 5: Extrinsic Rewards & Motivation from Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius by Angeline Stoll Lillard.
This chapter examines how external rewards can influence childrenβs motivation and engagement, and why Montessori education places such strong emphasis on cultivating intrinsic motivation instead.
Together, we will reflect on what the research reveals about praise, rewards, and the childβs natural desire to learn.
π Date: Tuesday, 23 June 2026
β° Time: 19h00 β 20h00
If youβre joining the book club, please read Chapter 5 before our session and come ready for thoughtful discussion.

Young children have a deep need for order.
During the first years of life, children are working to understand and make sense of the world around them. A consistent environment helps them build confidence, security, and independence.
In Montessori environments, materials are carefully arranged, routines are predictable, and everything has a place. This is not about neatness for its own sake. It is about helping children know where things belong, what is expected, and how they can participate independently.
When children can find what they need, complete a task, and return materials without assistance, they begin to trust in their own abilities.
Order is one of the foundations upon which independence is built.
