❤️ I’m SO excited to announce my brand-new book!

Homeschooling: Teach You to Teach — now available on Amazon:
https://a.co/d/cJWfotK

After nearly 50 years as a teacher, principal, lecturer and school founder, I’ve drawn on a lifetime of real-world experience to create something meaningful — and deeply needed right now.

This isn’t just a homeschooling book.
It’s about reclaiming education — giving parents, caregivers and educators the tools and confidence to teach in ways that truly fit the child.

Whether you’re:

• A parent ready to take the first step
• A tutor supporting a young learner
• An educator rethinking the system
• Or someone who believes there’s a better way to learn

👉 This book is for YOU!

Inside, you’ll discover:

✔️ How to teach based on your child’s learning style and strengths
✔️ How to support children with dyslexia, ADHD or anxiety
✔️ What the future of education looks like — and how to prepare
✔️ Lesson planning, home setup, creative activities and more
✔️ Encouragement, structure, and practical advice from the field

You don’t need a degree to teach your child with purpose and heart.
You just need the right support — and this book is where it begins.

🎓 AND… something BIG is coming.

On February 15th, I’m launching the Homeschool Certificate Course at www.aohbl.com

This course is the next step — a clear, empowering path for parents who want to homeschool with confidence and clarity.

✅ Step-by-step guidance
✅ Flexible, supportive structure
✅ Based on real-world classroom and home education experience

Let’s reshape learning — one home, one child, one empowered parent at a time.

With love,
Dr Edwina Grossi

🌙 Why Do Children Have Nightmares?

Bad dreams are most common in children between ages 4–6, though some may continue up to 12.

Here are some possible causes:

👉 Television & media
At this age, children have vivid imaginations and are still learning to separate fantasy from reality. Action-packed shows before bed can stir up their dreams.

👉 Illness
According to Dr. Woolfson, restless nights and nightmares can sometimes be an early sign that a child is about to fall ill.

👉 Worry or change
Big life events — a remarriage, moving house, a new baby, or a parent being away — can make children feel uncertain or fearful. These feelings often surface at night.

👉 Food & drinks
Certain late-night snacks (like cheese, chocolate, or sugary/caffeinated drinks) may increase the chance of nightmares in some children.

👉 Stress & conflict
Arguments at home, bullying, or major disruptions can create deep worries that show up in dreams.

👉 Night terrors
Though rare, night terrors can cause a child to scream, sit up, or even walk while asleep. They may appear awake but usually won’t remember it in the morning. While alarming, they are not usually a cause for concern unless frequent.

💡 If nightmares become regular, talk gently with your child about their worries. And if the problem continues, seeking guidance from a child psychologist may help.

✨ A calm bedtime routine and reassurance can make all the difference.

❓Has your child ever gone through a phase of nightmares? How did you help them through it?

How Children Learn
All children are different and they learn in different ways. All children have the potential to learn but not everyone is on the same page on the same day. This notion has caused many a child to drop out of school as their self-esteem falls because their style of learning, specific strong and weak intelligences, specific talents, barriers to learning or learning disabilities have not been recognized and catered for.
Knowledge can never be given to a child; the children need to build to build their own knowledge but they cannot be expected to build on a shaky foundation. All buildings need a strong foundation if they are to stand and have the ability to accommodate the finer things such as windows and doors. Therefore early detection of barriers to learning and learning disabilities is vital and should be identified in preschool so that accommodations, remediation and assistance can be given. The old idiom “A stitch in time saves nine” holds true.

Get your FREE copy of the Introduction to the AOHBL programme - https://www.aohbl.com/free-offer/

In the introductory booklet, there is an explanation of child development, school readiness, the common characteristics of children at different ages i.e. from 2 1/2 – 6 years old, an explanation of the lessons in book form, which can be done over a period of a week or two or as many days as is needed, a guide to the Intelligences and how a child learns, an explanation of the Wonderskills Programme (a holistic physical development program) and an explanation of the terms one may come across as a teacher.

There is always so much to learn and know and no-one will ever know it all. I have embedded in the books little snippets of age-appropriate advice, like the reason for teaching shapes, how to teach your child to cut, the importance of the development of the small hand muscles for writing, how to teach language development and so on.

To summarise, you as a parent or an au pair, will be guided or taught the how, the why, the when, the who and the what to teach. In this way, I “Teach you to Teach”

Children need a positive, rich environment in order to progress, lay down and use pathways in their brains, and learn effortlessly through play and experiences.

This is how they learn:
◾️ Through all their senses – through sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste and, most importantly, what they do.
◾️ Through play and experimenting.
◾️ From experience and repetition.
◾️ Through interaction with others.
◾️ Through imitation, praise and encouragement.
◾️ Through exposure and by the extension of their existing knowledge.
◾️ From direct instruction by an adult.
◾️ When their physical needs have been met.
◾️ When their particular Intelligence is recognised and accounted for.

In the 70s John Holt argued against rote learning - this is learning by heart without understanding. Unfortunately, this is still the learning method adopted by most schools. One of the main reasons why so many children do not like school.
At AOHBL we believe in encouraging a love of learning for life. Read more about homeschooling here https://buff.ly/3u3joQx
