π‘οΈ Temperature Inversion
Temperature inversion is an unusual atmospheric condition in which temperature increases with height instead of decreasing.
Normally, air becomes cooler as we move upward. During an inversion, a layer of warm air traps cooler air near the Earthβs surface. This creates very stable atmospheric conditions and prevents vertical mixing.
π«οΈ Effects
- Traps smoke, dust and pollutants, causing air pollution.
- Favors the formation of fog and smog.
- Common during clear, calm nights, especially in valleys and low-lying areas.
- Can strongly affect visibility and local weather conditions.
π Remember: Normal lapse rate = temperature decreases with height; Inversion = temperature increases with height.
Geography Fact: Temperature inversion is particularly common in valleys, where cold, dense air settles near the ground.

πͺ¨ INTRUSIVE IGNEOUS ROCKS | Rocks Born Beneath the Surface π
Ever wondered how some rocks form deep inside the Earth? π
Intrusive igneous rocks form when magma cools and solidifies slowly beneath the Earth's surface. Because cooling is slow, they develop large, visible crystals.
πΉ Slow cooling β Large crystals
πΉ Formed deep underground
πΉ Generally coarse-grained
πΉ Also called plutonic rocks
β Examples:
β’ Granite β widely used in buildings and monuments
β’ Diorite
β’ Gabbro
π Remember:
Magma + Slow Cooling Underground = Intrusive Igneous Rock
π Geography Fact: When exposed by erosion and uplift, intrusive rocks that once formed deep underground can appear at the Earth's surface.
