This week we are running an academic enrichment program due to the alterations happening on campus. On the program today we had everything from science experiments, dance classes, snake awareness, personality tests, and even practical tips on car maintenance and what to do when your car gets stuck in the sand. Today was filled with adventure. Thanks to the educators involved!

Our Sí students had the privilege of visiting AfricaCom, “THE LARGEST DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE EVENT IN AFRICA, FOCUSED ON CONNECTING THE NEXT BILLION PEOPLE.”
It was incredible to discover how interconnect the world of technology is. Listening to service providers and decision makers from across the continent, and further abroad, was inspiring and somewhat overwhelming. The message was clear: communications technology ecosystems are driving sustainable growth on our continent.
IGCSE Art & Design portfolios packed and ready to be sent to Cambridge for external marking. Well done to the Art students for all their hard work this year.
Each year the Santa Shoebox Project collects and distributes personalised gifts and essential items for underprivileged children throughout South Africa. To raise funds this year, students dressed up as their favorite TV character, and walked the catwalk to show off their creativity and flair.
The IGCSE and AS Computer Science students presented their Term 4 projects this week on how to be Internet-safe. Students had to research various cyber security issues, and the associated risks and present solutions on how to remain safe in this digital world.
Our Middle school entrepreneurship day was a huge success this past Saturday. Thank you to our community for supporting our students. Entrepreneurship teaches essential life skills such as an innovative approach to solving a problem, collaboration, and working as a team. A special thank you goes out to Andile for organising the day.
The Stage 7 camp was a healthy experience for the students to test themselves both physically and mentally. This allowed them to step out of their comfort zones and gave them the opportunity to develop fundamental skills such as leadership, communication, team work and more.
Most importantly, the students had immense fun and enjoyed every bit of the bonding and group activities, which took them to new heights (literally).
Term 4 is already in full swing and our students are gearing down for the end of the school year. Our students have been very busy with Spirit week, Valedictory and Camp, as well as preparing for the upcoming examinations.
Take a look at what has been happening on campus in the October issue of our Generation Sandown Institute Newsletter.

On Monday, the Sí students were part of a masterclass hosted by Jevron Epstein. In this masterclass, students were asked to create their own businesses within 15 minutes. The business needed to have a specific logo, a summary of the business, and a business plan.
The masterclass showed the students how to use Artificial Intelligence technology to overcome some challenges they encountered when trying to execute the task. They also discussed some benefits of utilizing technology within the work environment.
The IGCSE 1 students decided to slow things down this weekend by taking things Back 2 Basics.
We camped for 2 nights in the picturesque Grabouw region. The weekend was full of outdoor activities such as, low ropes, time trial obstacle courses and orientation activities. Teamwork, the night-walk and the mental challenges were some of the highlights the students regard fondly.
"Theory into practice!"
Every entrepreneur would tell you that entrepreneurship is more application and less theory. It is not just about selling the product it is mostly about the behind the scenes, testing the idea, converting the idea into a viable business idea, the marketing, failing forward, taking calculated risk, the making of the product. Come support our budding entrepreneurs on the 5th of November as they put their theories into practice.
As we approach the final stretch for the ETA Sports Administration course the class hosted a successful sports day for the middle school students for the practical component of their course. ETA was in charge of organizing and facilitating all sports that took place on the day including touch rugby, 5 A-side soccer, and table tennis.
The students received wonderful prizes. Thank you to Canal Walk Shopping Centre for supporting our students.
For the past three days, our AS1 students went camping in the Matroosberg mountains. During the camp they did a high ropes course, a hike into the Matroosberg reserve slept in tents under the stars, and spent quality time bonding as a group next to campfires.

This was a night to remember as the students danced the night away in a spectacular setting next to the large I&J deep-sea Ocean Exhibit. A special thank you to all the parents and staff that made this special night possible.
We would like to extend a massive congratulations to Andre Human, a Mathematics teacher at our Generation Sandown Institute, who was selected to represent the Western Province in a recent inter-provincial indoor cricket tournament. He managed to finish as Best Batsman and was recognized as an "All-Star" player with the 5th highest point score in the tournament!
This puts him in great form for next year's indoor cricket world cup, where he'll stand a good chance of being selected for the South African team.
So keep an eye out for him – he's going to be one to watch!
Well done, Andre!
Relebohile Moeketsi, a Stage 7 student at Generation Sandown has been selected by Goju Kai Karate to go to Japan in October to obtain his black belt. Congratulations Relebohile! We wish you all the best.

This term in Computer Science, the IGCSE1 students got a chance to see the physical hardware components of a computer to compare memory to storage. Although Computer Science is mostly computer-based, connecting these concepts to physical experiences is always helpful.

The parents were also given a tour of the campus by our current student leaders. Well done to everyone involved! 7 - 2023
Our High school students had the opportunity to visit Robben Island this week.
They were exposed to the island tour and the prison tour. Each gave our students a unique look through the lens of a previous political prisoner.
Our students left with a different perspective in the history of our country and the feedback was positive.
The Si and ETA students headed to Cape Audio College. They explored the campus and had an opportunity to create their own mixes. This provided a wonderful opportunity for students to see a possible career pathway in sound engineering amongst others.
