Athlone High , my Alma Mater 1960 -1961. I met Claude Brink at Athlone High. We're still friends. I learnt from him and Sedick Mustapha how to fill in a Cape Times crossword puzzle. I boarded with his mom and dad for 8 years. Athlone High gave me good memories.

Claude, Sedick and I were in the Physical science class together with Hubie Paulse and we were in the Latin class together too.

After school we sometimes played tennisette till late. So we became friends. I will continue this
My Alma Mater 1960 -61. I made lots of friends there. Claude Brink with whom I boarded for eight years since 1961 is still my friend. I remember many of the friends whom I met at Athlone High. We beat Sinton in 1960 at the Goodwood track. What a day that was. The climax was the medley relay that brought us all to our feet as Cecil, Edgar (Muckup) , Eustace and Colin Barendilla came in first. They have all passed on. I'm actually crying now. There were other athletes who made us proud that day: June Newman, Edwina Cummings, Boy Majiet, Tolla feipher, Carl Ehrenreich, Margaret and Andries Barlow , Eagram Johnson. Rodney De K**k and others about whom I shall probably write later.

We also had a good football and good rugby team who were better than most high school teams whom we competed against .I will add some more details about those two sport codes. I would just like to mention that the teachers who coached produced good results. Jaap Bekker was a great rugby coach. More about the football will follow.

I always had a good time in class, with teachers like Mr Michaels, L Janari, Mr Dudley, Mr Reddy, R. Palm and J Bekker, because I was a good average student.

During breaks I sometimes went to vamp on a piano in one of the Standard 7 classrooms because I could play by ear. I admired a fellow student named Evald Fortune who was very good at the piano. I wonder what happened to him, never heard about him after I left Athlone High.

After school I often played tennisette in the quad with Claude, Sedick Mustapha and Hubert Paulse. We became good buddies. Claude and I remained friends and joined the same pop band The Missiles with another Athlone High ex student Aubrey Williams who played lead guitar..

These are some of my memories .There's much more that doesn't come to mind immediately.

Why are so many parents, students, even teachers too afraid to speak up about how Mr Hendricks treats our children, how he make them feel less about themselves, how he just blatantly says he is racists... How does not hide the fact that he has favorites on school, how he can just put the phone down in your face just to avoid a simple question... How many parents out there feels the way I do... Why isn't anyone speaking up... Mr Hendricks must fall... Put another principle in charge of athlone high and you will have many happy students

Complements of the season to everyone. I hope all had a blessed festive season. let me get to the point... The idea of creating this page was mainly to create a platform where everyone who went to Athlone High can meet old school mates and re-unite old friends who lost contact during our school years. Most important this page was created because I wanted the Class reunion of '96 . I think 2012 is the year. Obviously I cannot do this on my own but first , we need identify a date and the venue but firstly a date. I would appreciate if anyone of you could recommend a date for some time this year. The vanue will consider it once the date has been confirmed.
