Radio etiquette onboard a superyacht is essential for smooth communication and safety. 🚢📡 Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

✔️ Clear and Concise: When using the radio, keep your messages short and to the point. Avoid unnecessary chatter to maintain clarity. Speak clearly and calmly, especially in busy or emergency situations. 🗣️

✔️ Use Proper Call Signs: Address the right person or department with their correct call sign. It helps avoid confusion and ensures messages go to the right crew members. Always identify yourself first before speaking. 🎙️

✔️ Listen Before You Speak: Always check if the frequency is clear before transmitting. Interrupting or speaking over others can cause confusion, especially when communication is vital. 👂🔊

✔️ Speak Slowly: In critical situations, speaking too quickly can cause misunderstanding. Speaking slowly and clearly helps avoid mistakes. ⏳

✔️ Use “Over” and “Out” Correctly: “Over” signals you're done speaking and expect a reply. “Out” means you're finished and don't expect any further communication. ✅

✔️ Be Aware of Your Surroundings: When communicating, make sure you're not disturbing guests or creating noise that could disrupt the yacht's environment. 🎧🔕

✔️ Respect Privacy: Keep personal and crew conversations off the radio to avoid security breaches. Confidential information should never be transmitted over an open frequency. 🚫

What is the STCW'10 ⚓

The STCW'10 is a mandatory training for any crew member and is internationally recognised.
It stands for the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping.
The STCW consists of 4 modules. After each module you will receive a certificate that is good for 5 years. Prior to your expiry date you can then refresh your certificates.

1.📚 Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
This prepares you for the day-to-day emergencies that may occur onboard. You will also learn about safe working practises and understanding your role onboard.
2.📚 Personal Survival Techniques
This is a theory and practical course. You will get into the pool and learn about abandoning ship with a life raft and how to don lifejackets correctly. You will also get to put on an immersion suit.
3.📚 Elementary First Aid
This is a theory and practical course. You will be taught vital basic First Aid and lifesaving skills.
4.📚 Fire Fighting and Fire prevention
You will learn about fire prevention onboard a ship. You will put on fire fighting gear and learn how to use the correct equipment properly by firefighting professionals. You will learn firefighting drills and procedures onboard.
