Nguzo Saba Institute

Nguzo Saba Institute This is a Kasi private school run by Kasi people. Supporting kids as they become. What a privilege Nguzo Saba is a KiSwahili which translates seven principles.

We are a hub school unfolding and becoming in the township space of Khayelitsha, making access to quality education possible in this vibrant but under served community. We take a learner centered, individualized and learner paced approach to teaching and learning. These are the seven principles of the Pan Africanist festival called the Kwanzaa festival. This festival marks the end of the year it's a Thanksgiving festival that has these seven principles highlighted on each of the days of the festival. These are the following:

Umoja (Unity)
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
Imani (Faith)
Nia (Purpose)
Ujima (Collective Work)
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
Kuumba (Creativity)

These principles align well and capture perfectly the character we want to cultivate in each and everyone of our learners. We also want to cultivate a community and network of like-minded people, households and organizations for the transformation and sustainability of township and rural spaces of South Africa.
