Sometimes the hardest part of being a Montessori guide is simply not knowing what to do next. A child keeps wandering, another is repeating something you didn’t expect, or someone suddenly stops choosing work they used to love. Sometimes the whole room just feels a little off.
You start wondering if you should present something new, change something in the environment, step in, wait a little longer, or if there is simply something you are missing.
That uncertainty can be exhausting, especially when you really want to understand what the child is telling you.
This is where observation becomes so important. Not because we need more notes to write down, but because slowing down and really watching can give us so much information.
Sometimes the answer is a new presentation. Sometimes it is removing an obstacle or changing one small thing in the environment. Sometimes the child simply needs more time.
And sometimes it helps to have another Montessori person to talk it through with. I truly love being used as a resource. Whether that is through a one-on-one consultation where we can talk through exactly what is happening in your environment, or through the video library available with membership when you just need some new ideas and support, you don’t have to figure everything out alone.
