Before and after of my 3rd Parkrun.
We serve our teams, our communities, a cause greater than ourselves, and the ideals we believe in. But service comes at a cost if we neglect ourselves.
You cannot pour from an empty cup.
Too often, leaders keep giving until they are exhausted, stressed, and running on empty. The truth is that taking care of your health is not selfish; it is essential. Your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing are the foundation that allows you to continue serving others effectively.
The best leaders understand that self-care is not a distraction from leadership; but part of it.
Take care of yourself so you can continue taking care of others.

Getting older is a strange journey.
One day you’re reading portfolios at arm’s length like a medieval scholar… the next day you’re "proudly" upgrading to multifocal lenses like it’s a software update for wisdom. 🤓
But maybe there's a lesson here in disguise.
When you’re young, you only focus on what’s right in front of you .. the urgent, the obvious, the immediate win.
With experience, you learn to adjust your lens:
● See the big picture.
○ Read the fine print.
● Spot what’s coming in the distance.
● Lose a battle to win a war.
Good leaders know perspective matters more than perfect eyesight.
So yes… I may now need glasses to find my glasses.
But at least I can still see the bigger picture clearly. 😅

When the creator of the game has to rewrite the rules because your empire is expanding too fast, making too much money, other factions getting nervous and your closest competitor is considering joining or burning the forest, salting the earth and fleeing. 🤷♂️

Decided to do a Heavy Motor Vehicle License. Trying new things. Our facilitator was fun, personable and made sure to explain everything with patience and in detail.
Next stop, convincing cool people to help with am upcoming project.

Thank you Mr Adams of for the lovely gift. I shall name him....Barrithor (Barry to his friends).
Plants, much like the young, do not thrive by chance alone. They require steady guidance, consistent care, and patience (lots of patience --deep breath)
We don't always get it right and we lose a lot (sometimes more than we thought we could) but a little sunshine, good foundations, and careful attention certainly creates a pathway for success.

Aaaaand back to Nam. Bag check took a while.
Laptop out, ok cool no problem. Medicine bottles, fine. Glue stick....wait a second.
Then comes the permanent marker, the whiteboard markers, chalkboard chalk, several sheets of laminated papers, blue tac, handful of lozenges, several plastic mini figures of Marvel characters mounted on 50 cent pieces, and then the guy says "wait," while he calls others.
Now there's 3 of them rummaging through my bag and the questions come;
Q: What for is the paper?
A. To write on.
(They nod in unison, answer makes sense I suppose)
Q. The markers?
A. To write with.
Q. The pens.
A. Same
.."Shame?"...nono. Same, the same. Also to write with.
Aaaah.
A. The glue?
Q. To stick writing to other writing
A. And this? (Waves the blu tac)
Q. To stick writing to the wall.
I'm an educator. I volunteered hoping it would cast light on the suspect stationery.
What?! Asks the woman, drawing out that lonely syllable like she's broke and the end of the month is still far away.
Teacher, I teach.
"Like a tutor," the man in the middle asks.
I shrug, Yes, exactly.
They speak to each other. Then leave. No goodbye, thank you for your patience. No question of why there's only one sock in the bag. Nothin'.
The joys of traveling.

Took significantly longer getting here than I initially estimated. Left at 08:00-ish on Friday, arrived 04:00-ish on Sunday.
Just arrived and I'm already behind schedule.
Checked in on the new location of the Think Like A Leader Institute. Little over 2 Hectares of land that needs to be worked and transformed.
Lots of work, the steading where the family will be living has been neglected to an extreme extent.
Prickly Pears, sweet potato, passion fruit, watermelon and oranges are growing wild all over the place. Will need to bring some order to the chaos.
Next steps is to make clearing for the chickens and commission the crafting of a coop. Then build a barn for the bovines. Once the house has been cleaned and livable I'll select a service for switching to solar.

Up, up, and, away. Taking this young leader to SA. He's got school on Monday and leaders take their education seriously.
2000 kilometres of driving over 24 hours. 2 days of supply hunting, 2 days of work, then a flight back to Nam for the regular Thursday meetup, then just enough time to resupply for the Learn Like A Leader on Saturday, Speak Like A Leader on Monday, prep for Dungeon Day hosted by a national cooperative story telling convention on the 4th of April.
