📚✨ Celebrating KAAPS, Reading & Storytelling at Balvenie Primary School! 🇿🇦
On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, Balvenie Primary School had the privilege of welcoming Mr Peter Daniels, affectionately known as “PeeDee”, a South African poet and author, who spent time with our learners sharing his passion for reading, writing and storytelling.
Mr Daniels shared his book, KAAPS MY TAL DJY STRAAL – i Digbindil in Ossi Tal, with our learners, celebrating the beauty, richness and uniqueness of Cape Town and the language and culture that form part of our community.
His personal journey, growing up in a poverty-stricken community in Elsies River, made his message especially meaningful to our learners. He reminded them that where we come from does not have to determine where we are going. Through his life experiences and writing, he encouraged our learners to believe in their dreams, use their voices and recognise the value of their own stories.
The session also highlighted the importance of reading, writing and storytelling, while encouraging learners to embrace and preserve their language, culture and heritage. 📖📝❤️
