One of our school’s First Version of 2025 Timetable was done on 9 December 2024. Schools who are still struggling with their first version of 2025 will continue to loose instructional time for the 935 hours per year. There are alternatives than stressing with this same problem every year. We have recently launched our new version of School Timetable, with the ability of principals to demo for FREE on https://sisopen.org. The new features include advanced Instructional Leadership and AI designs, of which we share this screenshot. We can generate the primary school timetable with either ‘general teaching’ (one teacher, teaching all the subjects, fixed periods) or ‘subject specialist teaching’, especially from grades 4 to 7. If you are teaching mathematics to matric grade 12 learners, and you don’t spent at least 50% of your whole lessons (not part of it) on Learner Learning (consolidation and preparation) then we have to engage. See the numbers attached, through our Curriculum Chunking process.

We managed to create the awareness and commitment among the staff of our ‘guided curriculum and aligned assessment’ approach (curriculum chucking) for 2023 and onwards at Zwelethemba High school. This is part of our response to the devastating effect of those two Covid-19 years and also for other like events in future. The approach is strong on accountability from all stakeholders in education. And sustainability is key for us, and therefore ‘quick fixes’ are necessary for the immediate grade 12 learners but not our key driver.

A unique request for the induction of newly appointed Subject Advisors, came recently to my door. Although the planning of the session started with the job description of office-based educators, it ended up being the last topic in our engaging session. Interestingly, what happened before was about ‘mind shifting’.

Another exciting session with the Capricorn district senior team and circuit managers, under the leadership of the district director. Preparation for 2023 is underway, with a new focus on structured (curriculum chunking) instructional delivery, monitoring & evaluation and support & development. The working together between circuit managers and subject advisors will be crucial. The NSC glass ceiling of Limpopo has to go in 2023.

The District Development Model (DDM) as the potential to improve service delivery to marginalised communities in both rural and urban areas. The fact that Education (DBE) wants to play a leading role in this process, can create hope for learners to receive holistic support from all our public servants.

It was a great privilege to engage with the District Director, Circuit Managers and Subject Advisors of the Vhembe West district for two days at Schoemansdal, as a collaborative process of improving the performance of grade 12 learners. We started the process of recovery this month, and need patience, positive energy and commitment to stabilise the district back to it glory. Thanks to DBE for creating this partnership opportunity.

What an awesome long weekend (four days) with the best performing education district (Capricorn South) in Limpopo, adopting the School of Excellence Methodology (SEM) in all their schools. More than 500 district and school leaders, teacher and learners were uploaded in https://sisopen.org (District Instructional Management System) for preparatory support for grade 12 learners for free. The immediate intention of this weekend’s journey is to retain their position in Limpopo, but working towards being the best district in the country. Excellence is not a skill but an attitude, and there are plenty of it amongst the district leadership of Director Ms Nkuzana, curriculum head Mr Shongwe, and others who displayed courageous and inspirational commitment to education, for the sake of our learners.
