A calm start changes everything 🧘♀️
When pupils arrive full of energy, noise or post-lunch chaos, the first few minutes can set the tone for the entire lesson. These tiny transition moments help pupils land, listen and feel ready to learn.
No equipment. No prep. Just simple routines that make music lessons feel calmer, smoother and more connected.
Save this one for your next busy teaching day.
Not every music lesson needs to end with a performance.
Sometimes, assessment can be as simple as a quick discussion, a whiteboard check or a short quiz.
The important part is knowing who has met the learning objective, who needs support and whether the class is ready to move on.
Formative assessment in music does not have to be big. It just needs to be useful.

We were so excited to attend Schoolscape South Africa and spend time connecting with school leaders, educators and teams who care deeply about what learning can look like.
It was a lovely opportunity to share what we’re building, hear from schools directly, and have meaningful conversations around music education, creativity and classroom support.
Thank you to for having us and for creating such a valuable space for the education community.

A sea topic already gives pupils so much to imagine🌊
Sea shanties add sound, rhythm and movement to that learning, without needing a separate lesson or extra planning.
A simple way to make the topic more memorable.
There’s a common idea that improvisation comes later.
But it does not have to.
This is one of the things we love hearing from teachers using the Ear Academy: that the learning starts from the ground up, with small, clear steps that help pupils build confidence early.
A first piece, listening skill and chance to create something of their own.
Simple, supported and genuinely musical from the start 🎵
A little look behind the lessons 🎶
When we create professional development content for the Ear Academy, the goal is not just to explain the curriculum. It is to help teachers feel genuinely ready to teach it.
That means keeping the guidance clear, practical and useful for experienced music teachers as well as those approaching music for the first time.
Supportive, never patronising. Structured, but still full of classroom energy.
Looking for a simple warm-up that gets the whole class listening, copying and joining in 🎶
Sirens is a lovely way to build confidence with vocal play, encourage pupils to respond to each other and create a shared musical moment before the lesson begins.
No instruments needed. Just voices, imagination and a circle.
