This week, I have followed many posts on various groups:

The burden of grief is heavy for us as medical professionals.

🥲We mourn the loss of potential career paths, coming to terms with the fact that reality is not always as promising as we had hoped.
🥲We feel the weight of unjust accusations and being unheard, facing blanket statements from ill-informed people.
🥲Our hearts ache for our patients who are fighting battles, enduring endless waiting and multiple trips for little or no answers.
🥲When we lose a patient, we grieve silently; we don't want anyone to see us fail. Anonymity brings safety.
🥲We mourn for a system that has let us down, bogged down by institutionalised bureaucracy and red tape.
🥲We also grieve for the relationships we've lost and our sacrifices, knowing that time will never be returned.

The list above is not exhaustive; every person's grief is as unique as a fingerprint.
Despite these differences, everyone shares the need for their grief to be witnessed.
This doesn't mean they need someone to try to lessen or reframe it for them. What they need is for someone to fully acknowledge the magnitude of their loss without trying to point out a silver lining.

May each of you find a caring witness to your grief so that healing may be closer and more natural for you every day. Healing does not mean the grief did not happen; it means the grief controls you less, as David Kessler beautifully explains.
