What a special day it was at Dale College as our Matrics stepped into the role of storytellers, reading to our Grade 1 and 2 boys as part of our TAQA × Dale College activation.

What made the day so special was watching the excitement on the faces of our youngest boys as they listened, laughed, asked questions and got lost in the stories being shared with them. For our Matrics, it was an opportunity to give back, to lead by example and to show our younger boys that learning can be something you enjoy, share and experience together.

Reading is about so much more than learning words on a page. It sparks imagination, builds confidence, encourages curiosity and opens the door to a world of possibilities. When we can make that experience fun from an early age, we can help develop a lifelong love for learning.

This is also where digital learning becomes so important. Our boys are growing up in a world where technology is part of almost every aspect of life. Giving them exposure to digital learning from an early age provides them with a valuable head start, while ensuring that technology complements the fundamentals of education, including reading, curiosity and human connection.

Today was a wonderful example of how those worlds can come together: a Matric reading to a young boy, a story being shared, technology opening new possibilities, and a love for learning being passed from one generation of Dalians to the next.

We are incredibly grateful to TAQA for being such a committed supporter of Dale College Boys’ High School. Their continued investment in our school is about more than providing resources. It is an investment in our boys, their education and the opportunities available to them as they grow.

Partnerships like this remind us that education is a shared responsibility. When schools, learners, teachers, families and partners come together, we can create experiences that leave a lasting impression.

A heartfelt thank you to TAQA for believing in our schools and for continuing to invest in the future of our boys. And to our Matrics, thank you for showing our young Dalians what leadership looks like not only through achievement, but through giving your time, sharing your knowledge and inspiring those who will follow in your footsteps.

The books may have been opened today, but something much bigger was started.

A love for reading. A love for learning. A connection between generations. And perhaps, the beginning of a few big dreams.

This special day is dedicated to connection, learning, fun and giving back. We are inviting all Ubumbo members, friends, family and the broader Ubumbo community to join us for a fun-filled day with the children of Langa.

The day will feature educational games, exciting activities and plenty of opportunities to create lasting memories while making a positive impact in the lives of young people.

Join us on this Youth Day, on June 16 at the 1st ever "Language Our Freedom" Event. Rooted in our history of the Soweto Uprisings, It is a dialogue to celebrate and discuss the future of African Languages in SA Classrooms and Society. It will be a hybrid event (incl. Virtual) hosted at The University of the Western Cape.

It is an opportunity to reflect on the opportunities, challenges and insights that work in this arena by various sectors of society has afforded us. The following issues will be explored during the event: language and literacy, language and exclusion as well as language and memory. In addition to the conversation, there will be literary activities that demonstrate the value of language in our way of life, as well as the gap that is created when language is not adequately utilised or represented. The planning committee comprises of academics from various institutions, publishers, members of the DBE & Civil Society, and other key stakeholders in the literacy work and conversations.

We are pleased to officially welcome TAQA to the Dale College community as one of our valued partners. TAQA is an innovative online digital library that offers children’s illustrated audiobooks in all eleven of South Africa’s official spoken languages.

The platform is designed to ensure that every child, regardless of background or language, has access to stories that educate, inspire and reflect the cultural richness of our nation.

By making storytelling accessible in every South African language, TAQA is playing a vital role in bridging the literacy gap and nurturing a love for reading from an early age. This mission resonates deeply with our values at Dale College, particularly our ongoing commitment to promoting inclusivity, academic excellence and cultural identity.

We are sincerely grateful to TAQA for supporting Dale College and investing in the growth and development of the next generation of leaders.
