The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a research-led institution recognised nationally and internationally for its sustained contribution to democratic change in South Africa. The Faculty of Arts & Humanities seeks to appoint a Lecturer in a permanent position in the Department of Anthropology. The Department of Anthropology is a vibrant space with a growing cohort of postgraduate students, and a record of research and teaching in the fields of Anthropology of Health; Men and Masculinities; Aesthetics, Performance and Popular Culture; Human-Plants Interfaces, Political and Legal Anthropology, Religion and Spirituality. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in significant ways to research, teaching, and supervision, as well as to perform normal administrative tasks and duties.

The UWC Anthropology is hosting today an event, in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Islam at the University of Cape Town, and invites you to a talk on genocide, resistance and peace in Gaza with Ms Hanan Jarrar, Palestinian Ambassador to South Africa.
This event joins ongoing global solidarity with Palestinians' political right of self-determination and citizenship. Please join us for a screening of the film Gaza's First Photographer, followed by a panel discussion that considers Palestine's present
and future in light of a history of colonial occupation. with Ms Hanan Jarrar, the Palestinian Ambassador and, Associate Heidi Grunebaum and chaired by Professor Heike Becker.
