Since established in 2020, our passionate group of coaches have been on the front foot of the development of female and youth rugby within local communities in and around Cape Town. The following principles are applied to develop and improve set ups: Promoting Participation, Tutoring Talent, Organising Opportunities
Currently Up and Under is the leading youth female rugby developer in Cape Town. We are privileged and honored to be the preferred service provider for the development and growth of youth female rugby at DF Malan High School, Fairbairn College, Totius Primary School, Bellville Primary School and our own Ladies Rugby Academy in affiliation with Up and Under Rugby Club.

WE STAND TOGETHER AGAINST GBV.

The continued violence against women and girls in South Africa cannot become something we simply learn to live with.

At Up and Under, we have the privilege of working with girls and young women every day. We see their strength, ambition, courage and potential, both on and off the rugby field.

They deserve to grow up in a country where they are safe.

Safe to train.
Safe to travel.
Safe to walk and run.
Safe at school, at home and in their communities.
Safe to pursue their futures without fear.

As coaches, teammates, parents, administrators and members of our communities, we all have a responsibility to challenge violence, harassment, abuse and the attitudes that allow them to continue.

To every woman and girl in our Up and Under family, and across South Africa:

THE 2026 HIGH SCHOOL SEASON IS WRAPPED UP! 🏉

What a season it has been across our four high school programmes.

We kicked things off in mid-February, with DF Akademie, Parow High School, Edgemead High School and Fairmont High School all fielding both U16 and U19 teams in the WP Northern Region League. Together, our four schools helped fill both age-group divisions and created more opportunities for girls to play regular competitive rugby.

Each programme leaves the season with its own story to be proud of.

🔴🔵 Edgemead HS continued to raise their standard from last season and claimed bragging rights in the first-ever girls rugby derby against Fairmont, a memorable occasion for both schools.

🩵⚫ Parow HS entered only their second season of girls rugby after being the newcomers in 2025. This year they took a significant step forward, establishing themselves as one of the stronger participants in the league and showing tremendous courage, character and growth along the way.

🟢🟡 Fairmont HS started their girls rugby journey this year. The results were tough early on, but improvement could be seen game after game. They went on to earn their first league victory and finished with one of their best performances of the season, pushing Edgemead all the way in a narrow derby defeat.

🔵🟡 DF Akademie completed another undefeated league campaign, making it two years in a row without a league defeat. With an U16 side added to the programme this season, both the U16 and U19 teams went unbeaten throughout their respective league campaigns.

But beyond the results, this season was about the players who kept arriving, learning, competing and representing their schools with pride.

A massive thank you to the players, coaches, school staff, parents and supporters who made the 2026 season possible.

FOUR OF OUR GIRLS ARE WORLD CUP BOUND IN TAGBOK GREEN & GOLD! 🇿🇦🏆

We are incredibly proud of Charné Jupp, Amy Barnes, Hlumani Mtwana and Lungile Magubane, who have been selected to represent South Africa in the Women’s Open division at the 2026 Tag World Cup in Australia.

This moment has been earned through months of hard work and commitment. Weekends sacrificed, countless training sessions, fundraising, travelling and balancing everyday life — all while working towards the opportunity to wear the green and gold on the world stage.

We’ve been privileged to share part of the journey with these four through Up & Under, and it makes this achievement even more special.

Charné, Amy, Hlumani and Lungi — we are incredibly proud of you!

Now go make some memories in that Green & Gold. 🇿🇦

Two of our U16 girls are taking another exciting step in their rugby journeys! 🇿🇦🏉

A massive congratulations to Megan Abrahams and Laghan De Jongh, who have been selected to participate in the SARU U16 EPD Camp in the Western Cape from 26 September to 2 October.

Megan and Laghan have shared plenty of rugby together this year, representing the DF Akademie U16 Girls team, while also being teammates at Up and Under Rugby Club. Megan has been doing her work at scrum-half, while Laghan has been making her mark out wide on the wing.

It’s special to watch these two continue to grow, compete and earn opportunities at the next level. We’re incredibly proud of you, girls. Enjoy every moment of the experience!

’n Aand van dankbaarheid, erkenning en viering. 💙🏉

Op 28 Augustus het ons saamgekom om die mense te vier wat so ’n belangrike rol in DF Akademie se meisierugbyprogram en ons 2026-seisoen gespeel het. Baie dankie aan Mnr. Louis Lamprecht, Hoof van Rugby, wat die aand geopen het en sy waardering teenoor ons spelers, ouers en die Up and Under-afrigtingspan uitgespreek het.

’n Massiewe dankie aan SA Rugby Travel, ons meisierugbyborg vir 2026, vir julle ondersteuning van ons program en ons meisies. Julle bydrae het ’n groot verskil gemaak aan wat ons hierdie jaar vir die span kon bied, en ons is opreg dankbaar om SA Rugby Travel deel van DF Meisierugby se reis te hê. 💙

Die aand was ook ’n besonderse geleentheid vir ons Eerstespan-meisies, wat hul truie ontvang het, asook ’n oomblik om erkenning te gee aan ons matriekspelers en hulle te bedank vir alles wat hulle oor die jare tot die span en program bygedra het. 🎓🏉

HEART OF A MONTY BEAR. 💚🐻

They may have entered Derby Day as the underdogs, but the Monty Bears made sure they were never defined by it.

These girls left everything on the field. They fought for one another, celebrated one another and kept going until the very end. 🏉

What stood out was the passion throughout the entire team. From the players on the field to the coaches and management alongside it, you could see just how much representing Fairmont meant to them.

In their very first year of girls rugby, they are already building something special. A team with heart, togetherness and immense pride in their school. 💚

Hold your heads high, Monty Bears. This is only the beginning. 🐻
