ILI Instructional Leadership Institute The ILI programme is an instructional school leadership programme designed for passionate, reflective and committed school leaders.

ILI is a school leadership development programme established to provide leaders with the training and skills needed to run outstanding schools across South Africa. The programme accepts candidates from public, low-fee private, and public-private partnership (PPP) schools to ensure that we have participants with a broad range of experiences in the cohort.

Improvement is a system.

Sustainable improvement in education does not come from isolated interventions. It happens when leadership, teaching, curriculum, accountability and instructional time work together towards better learning.

At ILI, we strengthen the leadership systems that help schools turn improvement into everyday practice, supporting leaders, strengthening teaching and creating the conditions for learners to make progress.

This week, Chanel Adonis, a school leader at Cavalleria Primary School, shared some news that moved us all. What she has learnt so far through the Instructional Leadership Institute's Home Language and Mathematics programme has transformed her classroom.

At the start of 2026, only 37% of her learners were passing English. Within a few months, that number reached 91%. That is 25 more children now reading for meaning.

Yet what makes Chanel proudest is not the results. It is watching her learners begin to believe in themselves.

This is why we do what we do at ILI. Every step we take with school leaders leads back to one purpose: seeing every learner flourish.

Two Cape Town schools are looking for their next Deputy Principal and I'd love to help them find the right people.

Jupiter Street Primary School in Ocean View and Kraaifontein High School are both appointing a permanent Deputy Principal (Post Level 3), starting 1 January 2027.

A deputy principal shapes what happens in classrooms every day. The strongest ones lead instructional improvement through classroom observation, coaching and honest feedback, use learner data to target support and grow the heads of department and teachers around them. That is where learner outcomes are won, and both schools are asking for exactly this: a demonstrated record of instructional and curriculum leadership.

Minimum requirements are a four-year REQV 14 qualification, SACE registration and at least five years' teaching experience (in a primary school for Jupiter Street). At Kraaifontein High, a postgraduate qualification in education management and leadership is an added advantage.

Closing dates are close:

📌 Jupiter Street Primary School: 2 October 2026

Today, we celebrate the many cultures, languages, traditions and stories that make South Africa beautifully diverse. 🇿🇦

But diversity is about more than simply recognising our differences.

It is about taking the time to understand one another.

In our classrooms, children bring their whole selves with them — their languages, cultures, beliefs, experiences and identities. These differences aren't barriers to learning.

They are opportunities to learn from one another.

Our diversity is not a challenge to overcome. It is a strength to understand.

South Africa’s education challenges cannot be explained by one statistic, one policy or one problem.

Language barriers. Poverty and inequality. Gaps in teacher knowledge. Under-resourced schools. A lack of strong foundations before children even enter Grade 1.

The challenges are complex. And sometimes, they can feel overwhelming.

But we don't have to solve everything at once.

We can start where we can make a meaningful difference.

By strengthening school leadership. By supporting teachers. By building stronger foundations for learning.

Because every positive change inside a school has the potential to create a ripple effect far beyond its walls.

The challenges are real.

But so is the possibility for change.

And that is where we begin.
