Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness Mireille Wenger formally launched UCT's Proton Therapy Initiative at the Neuroscience Institute, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to supporting innovative healthcare solutions. “Proton therapy is a ground-breaking advancement in the treatment of cancerous and some non-cancerous tumours. Globally, low- and medium-income countries, like South Africa, account for 90% of the world’s childhood cancer cases but we have less than 5% of the global resources for paediatric oncology.”

What a finale to our 'Hot Topics in Neuroscience' lecture series UCT Summer School. Neurosurgeon Byron De John had the audience simutaneously intrigued and quite glad they hadn’t yet had breakfast, with visceral surgical videos of the brain! You can bet your right hemisphere we'll be back next year! Keep an eye on https://lnkd.in/d_VkaW39 for all things neuro (and maybe even for some uploads of these lectures, fingers crossed!).
