World Rabies Day: The Global Alliance for Rabies Control has declared today to be the global day of action and awareness for rabies prevention. Rabies is a viral disease that causes inflammation of the brain in humans and other mammals, and is what we call a zoonotic disease (a disease that is transmitted to humans from animals). Global elimination of rabies is a possibility. But education and awareness is key.
The only protection against rabies is vaccination. Thanks to our partners African Tails, all animals sterilized during the Mass Animal Sterilization and Education Project we are part of, will receive a rabies vaccination supplied by the Western Cape Government’s Department of Agriculture.
Please ensure that all your pets are protected against rabies, and have received their rabies vaccination.
