You’re tired, here’s how to avoid making silly mistakes onboard👇🏽
When you’re exhausted, the jobs you know best can actually be the ones you’re most likely to make mistakes on. Your brain goes into autopilot.
So when you’re tired:
Slow down for the repetitive tasks.
Double check your work.
Repeat instructions back when you’ve been given something important.
Keep your usual systems consistent.
And if you notice you’re making the same small mistake more than once, speak up and ask for help early.
Asking for support isn’t a sign that you’re struggling.
It’s part of being a professional crew member, and it protects you, your team and the guest experience 💎
We’ve put together a full “How to Keep Going When You’re Tired” resource inside this month’s Junior Stew Membership, including practical reset techniques, focus tips and a checklist you can actually keep on your phone.

One of the easiest mistakes to make as a Junior Stew is assuming that being proactive means immediately getting started.
But when you’re busy onboard, priority matters more than speed.
Before you begin, check with your Chief Stew or senior crew👇🏽
✨ What needs doing first?
✨ What needs to be finished by a specific time?
✨ What can wait?
✨ Where will I be most useful?
Because you can spend 30 minutes doing something perfectly... only to discover that something else needed to happen first.
Being proactive isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about understanding what matters most right now.
This is one of the practical skills we cover inside this month’s TYS Membership for Junior Stews, alongside turnover systems, charter checklists, staying consistent under pressure and more ✨

The busiest part of the season has a way of making you question yourself.
Did I miss something?
Could I have done that better?
Am I good enough?
Here’s your reminder...
You are learning in one of the fastest paced industries in the world.
Every charter teaches you something.
Every busy day builds resilience.
Every challenge helps you become a more confident, capable stewardess.
Growth doesn’t happen when everything goes perfectly.
It happens when you keep showing up, even on the days that test you.

Everyone talks about getting promoted.
👉🏼 Very few people talk about preparing for what comes after.
The reality is, stepping into your first Chief Stewardess role isn’t just a change in title, it’s a complete shift in responsibility.
Suddenly, you’re leading a team.
Managing personalities.
Making decisions under pressure.
Giving feedback.
Setting standards.
Supporting your crew while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Those aren’t skills you magically develop overnight.
They’re skills you intentionally build.
One of the biggest mistakes we see is crew waiting until they’ve been promoted before investing in their leadership. By then, you’re already expected to have the answers.
The Chief Stewardess CoC is designed to help bridge that gap.
It’s not just about gaining a qualification, it’s about developing the confidence, management skills and leadership mindset you’ll rely on every day as a Head of Department.
If becoming a Chief Stewardess is your next goal, don’t just prepare for the promotion.
Prepare for the role.

There comes a point in your yachting career where being a great Stewardess isn’t enough anymore.
Not because your service isn’t exceptional.
But because the role you’re stepping into asks something completely different of you.
As a Chief Stewardess, you’re no longer just responsible for delivering five star service.
You’re responsible for leading a team.
Managing personalities.
Having difficult conversations.
Creating systems.
Supporting junior crew.
Making decisions under pressure.
And ensuring your entire department runs seamlessly.
Those are leadership skills.
And they’re not something you’re simply expected to “pick up” along the way.
That’s exactly why the Chief Stewardess CoC exists.
Yes, it’s an industry recognised qualification, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to develop the confidence, knowledge and leadership skills you’ll rely on every single day as a Head of Department.
If your goal is to become a Chief Stew, or you’ve recently stepped into the role and want to feel more confident in your leadership, this is the next step.
Our online Chief Stewardess CoC has been designed to fit around life onboard, so you can continue developing your career wherever you are in the world.
Ready to invest in the leader you know you’re capable of becoming?

One of the things I love most about being a stew is that creativity is part of the job.
🌺 It’s in the floral arrangements that welcome guests onboard.
🐚 The tablescapes that transform a dinner into an experience.
💕 The thoughtful details that make someone feel seen.
📩 The personal touches guests remember long after they’ve left the yacht.
As stews, we often think creativity has to mean doing something elaborate.
But some of the most memorable guest experiences come from the smallest ideas, a colour palette inspired by your location, a flower chosen because it’s in season, or a simple arrangement that perfectly complements the table rather than competing with it just like this one by Maxine Matthee
Luxury isn’t always about doing more.
Often, it’s about knowing when less creates a greater impact.
Never stop looking for inspiration.
It might come from a local flower market, a boutique hotel, a restaurant, or even a walk through the town you’re docked in.
The best interior crew never stop observing, learning and creating 🌸🌼

The difference between a good Chief Stew and a great one often comes down to preparation.
The most memorable guest experiences aren’t created by solving problems brilliantly...
They’re created by preventing problems before guests even notice them.
That’s why having a small emergency guest kit can be invaluable.
Many of these items cost very little, take up almost no space and have the potential to save a guest’s evening—or your own.
What’s one item that’s always in your emergency kit that you’d add to this list? 👇

A requested post by a new Chief Stew… 👇🏽
Becoming a Chief Stewardess is one of the biggest transitions you’ll make in your yachting career.
One day you’re focused on completing your own responsibilities.
The next, you’re responsible for leading a team, setting standards, managing personalities, anticipating challenges and creating an exceptional guest experience.
It’s exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.
The biggest shift isn’t learning more about service.
It’s learning how to think like a leader.
That means resisting the urge to change everything immediately, creating systems before problems arise, staying calm when the pressure builds and understanding that your role is no longer to be the person who does everything - it’s to build a team that can succeed together.
And one piece of advice I wish more new Chief Stews heard...
Don’t let imposter syndrome rush your leadership.
You don’t need to prove you belong every single day.
You were trusted with the role because someone believed you were ready.
Now it’s time to believe it too 🥰
If you’re a new Chief Stew, 📌 SAVE this post, you’ll come back to it more than once.
And if you’ve been doing the job for years, what’s one lesson you wish someone had told you when you first stepped into the role? 👇🏽

As Chief Stewardesses, it’s easy to fall into the habit of saying...
“I’ll just do it myself.”
It comes from a good place.
You want things done to a high standard.
You want to save time.
You want to avoid mistakes.
But over time, that mindset can quietly become one of the biggest barriers to building a high performing team.
When you’re always stepping in, your crew never get the opportunity to build confidence, develop their decision making skills or take ownership of their responsibilities.
And before long, you’ve become the person everyone relies on.
Not because you’re the best leader...
But because you’ve unintentionally become the only one with the knowledge and confidence to keep everything moving.
Exceptional leadership isn’t about proving how much you can do.
It’s about creating an environment where your team can grow, contribute and eventually take ownership themselves.
That’s how you build a resilient interior department.
That’s how you create future leaders.
This month inside TYS Membership, we’re sharing practical leadership strategies to help Chief Stewardesses build stronger teams, implement better systems and lead with confidence.
